Re: D5 AA Championship Game
HAHAHA! Not happening. I don't think it should happen even if Bedford were to win. Bedford has 1 win on the year at this point. They hardly deserve going to the playoffs. CR should beat Bedford and Everett and go into the playoffs.
District 5/6 in my opinion should be combined and 8 prob with 7. But, that is not the way it is set up. It's ashame Bedford hasn't had teams like they used to because this system is set up nice for D-5 teams to make nice little runs.

Re: D5 AA Championship Game
Here's the deal. Technically 5, 8 and 9 are in a sub-region. No different than the 5,6,8,9 AAA subregion with one difference. The 3 AA playing districts have agreed that rather than bracket and travel all over the western half of the state to play games, they handle the subregion differently.
Week 11- District 5 AA Championship and District 8 has their City League championship game (all classes) and District 9 Semifinals
Week 12- 5-AA champ vs 8-AA and District 9 Finals
Week 13- 5/8 survivor AT District 9 Champ
Here's the kicker. The 5-AA winner will get a BYE in Week 12 because their rep only has one win.
So, CR-Everett winner will take a bye week 12 and then travel to D9 Week 13.

While the D6 AA playoff teams beat each other up trying to get to Mansion park the D5 AA "Champion" gets a bye and plays into the state playoffs. In the words of Cameron Diaz in Bad Teacher: " SERIOUSLY"

Hey don't say District 6 is so much better than district 5!!! They get really mad at that assumption, no matter how true it is!

I don't get why, it's more of a fact than an assumption.konjo78 wrote:Hey don't say District 6 is so much better than district 5!!! They get really mad at that assumption, no matter how true it is!
Re: D5 AA Championship Game
because Konjo said so, you should know that. Penns Manor is the only real football team.StraightOuttaPortage wrote:I don't get why, it's more of a fact than an assumption.konjo78 wrote:Hey don't say District 6 is so much better than district 5!!! Re: D5 AA Championship Game
Just throwing this out there, you could ask a WPIAL team who they would rather play, a D6 AA team like Tyrone, Richland, Central, Forest Hills, or a D5 AA team like Bedford, Chestnut Ridge, or Everet? Even ask Clariton, they have cruised by every D5 A team they play but the BM Crushers gave them a pretty good game in the State Title a few years ago (D6 A).

Re: D5 AA Championship Game
Let me explain the PIAA's rationale. They are all about Proportional Representation in playoffs. That's why bigger districts get more qualifiers in many sports.
Let's Look at AA football in western Pa. WPIAL has the most schools, followed by District 6 and 10 with 16 AA's each and then District 9 has 6, D5 has 3 and D8 has 1.
Is it more fair to have 19 schools compete for one berth (5&6 combined) and 7 schools for the other berth (9&8 combined) or is it more fair for 16 schools (District 6 ONLY) compete for a berth and 10 schools (5,8,9) compete for the other. If you don't know the districts and their reputations for putting out strong teams, which the PIAA pays absolutely no attention to (Remember, it's all about proportional representation to them) then the way they are doing it this year appears, at least on paper, to be the fairer way of selecting for the two available spots allocated to Districts 5,6,8 and 9.
District 7 being the largest then plays the 5-8-9 subregional winner and D6 and 10, both with the same # of teams, play in the other Western Semifinal.

Bedford plays a much harder schedule in the lhac then both ridge and Everett. They could very well be the best team and not even play in the championship game.
I wouldn't that blanket statement this year. The LHAC is down across the conference. Ridge's schedule is much more difficult this year with Berks C., Fort Hill, Allegany, Central, Fort Hill and Bald Eagle matching anyone on Bedfords schedule. I'd say the schedules are pretty even.
