Pugh is going to Division 1 Binghamton. He also plays 1B. Pretty good hitter.

I went to the game yesterday. Pugh's pitch count was high but there is no way it was that high. He only had 4 walks too. The officiating was horrible for both teams. Pugh had so many kids struck out it was disgusting. Bishop McCort pitchers were getting just as robbed. High School umpires are the reason these kids have high pitch counts. McCort had 3 unearned runs also. I read in the paper that Pugh is going to Binghamton University. He normally plays 1B when not pitching. I just looked up the article he will be a two-way player.

Can't we stick to the topic of the thread(scores of the week)? If you guys want to discuss Pugh's weekly pitch count, starts, etc how about starting a thread on Pugh.

LOL The reason most kids have high pitch counts is because they aren't consistent with their mechanics and don't throw strikes. Too many kids try to throw curves when they are young and don't develop a good fastball. And because thir mechanics aren't sound, they don't have fastball command. Every game I watch I see generous strike calls three-four inches off of each side of the plate. (Please don't get me started). Why do you think so few kids are able to move up and be dominant pitchers at even the DIII level? For as much as parents spend on lessons nowadays, you'd think there would be a little more domination.
If Pugh can clean up his mechanics he may be able to avoid such high pitch counts. The truth of the matter is that he just throws too many pitches out of the zone.
Fastball command and a pitch to contact is what kids should be taught. Unfortunately when kids are really young they fall in love with their curve ball. Actually, its a kind of arranged marriage as kids are throwing deuces at Daddy's behest at 8 and 9 years old. Most of the older kids that do have a good fastball don't challenge anyone with it. You can't throw it by a hitter when its a foot outside or up at eye level.
He has a very long swing but he is very strong which makes him physically imposing at the high school level.Crimson's Ghost wrote:Pugh is going to Division 1 Binghamton. He also plays 1B. Pretty good hitter.

The Gamechanger app is managed by the McCort staff and from what I can gather they use it as their official book. So id venture to say those stats are either dead on or pretty darn close. They reported 161 to the Tribune as well.
Re: scores week of 4-15
I wonder how his college coach feels about the number 161 , not too happy i'm sure. I was told by a pro scout years ago that you only have so many miles in your arm and when they are used up , it's over.

Yes, Brad Coleman is a player. Seen him through the colt and pony ranks.
He's 3-0 with a 1.47 ERA and 26 K's in 14.1 Innings.
Also 1000 fielding percentage, playing primarily middle infield.
Leads McCort in hits, average, and RBI.
He was hurt last season, and didn't play much as a freshman, so you wouldn't have heard of him. But is really showing people what he can do early on this season.

BG 3, FH 2. There, I reported a score. Now Pugh. (sarcasm alert) Wondered why they didn't throw him today- I'm sure he had juice left in the tank! Today he was intentionally walked, tripled (mis-judged fly), doubled, and flied out to right center. Imposing physically, yes. A decent 1 B, yes. An overpowering force at the plate? I reserve my opinion on that, I've seen a TON of really good hitters over the years, Guys like Mike Moore, Keith Williams, Devin Mesoraco, etc. He's nowhere near that good.
It ain't over until it's over.
