I think Cole has to be sent down for a little while just to ensure his "super 2" status. If sending him down for 2 or 3 weeks will get the Bucs an extra year of team control, then it must be done. I expect to see him back with the big club for all of August and September, whether it be in the rotation or the pen.

I also wouldn't mind seeing Morton sent somewhere in a package for a RFer. When everyone is healthy there is plenty of rotation depth and there is a boat load (or pirate ship) of relievers in the system that are just as good or better than Morton. Pitching is always at a premium and the Pirates have a ton of it right now. Send him somewhere for a stick.

Anyone else think that if the Pirates don't make a move for an outfielder that we might see Polanco get a shot?

Polanco won't be a Pirate this season.

Cole could stay up all year and still would be 7 days short of super 2 status. There is no reason to send him down... Depth doesn't hold water, Morton has had 3 starts and 2 werent great. McDonald is done, he can't get a decent LL team in order anymore(ERA over 12 in minors) Keep Cole,....put Morton and Gomez to pen, use Morton for those situations in 5-7 inning when starter gets in trouble and ya need a double play ball(hes a ground ball machine)

No question JMac is essentially done.

Again, lots of time between now and when both Wandy and AJ come off the DL. To my knowledge, neither have begun a rehab yet.

So 1, another guy can go down and let Cole stay.
2, Cole can bomb his next 3 starts and needs to be sent down
3. Cole puts them in a position where there is no chance of sending him down.

Wandy rehabed the other night for the first time. Will get at least one, probably two more rehab starts.

I guess all the April talk of Locke being sent down when Morton and Jmac get healthy is dead now, huh??

I think the Stanton trade is really interesting. I have thought a lot about it. I would NOT trade 3 or 4 future players for 1 player that helps now. I know he is a stud, but things are gong well now and I wouldn't change them just to add him. However, if they could put together 3 or 4 guys from the present major league roster or some of the people that are hurt then I would say go for it. Such players as Morton, Gomex, Tabata, Barmes, Inge, Presley, McKenry, G. Sanchez. I know these guys are less attractive for the Marlins, but don't they need to improve thier team now. And most of these guys are solid MLB players that are cheap enough for the Fish and still give them a chance to win every night.

The conversation starts with Tallion and Polanco. If they aren't in the deal, there is no deal.

Miami says they do not intend to deal him, but they will listen. Look back to when they sent Miguel Cabrera to Detroit. In return they got the Tiger's top two prospects at the time, Andrew Miller and Cam Maybin, and 3 or 4 other mid level prospect. They will need a similar return to move Stanton. Miller and Maybin, at that time, were probably better prospects than Tallion and Polanco. Obviously Detroit won that deal, as neither Miller or Maybin have done little in their big league careers compaired to Cabrera. But dealing away your top prospects is always a crap shoot. Moral of the story, it's probably going to cost the Pirates 3 of their top 5 prospects to get Stanton. Major risk, major reward.

Gotta go for it! Why ya keeping them? Look at our drafts, other than Cole and McCuteon and maybe Alverez, we haven't drafted crap compared to everyone else. and in the end, a star is a star, and a prospect is a crapshoot. Do it@!!! With Stanton under contract til 2016 minimum(we have the money to resign him) do itPLEASE
