Curve manager Carlos Garcia says Polanco will be a better player than both Marte and McCutchen.

It looks like the Pirates tried to work on an offer to bring him up now and Polanco declined.

From MLB TRADE RUMORS PAGE
Pittsburgh made the offer during Spring Training, reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. While the options came with relatively low values given what Polanco may ultimately hope to command through free agency, Heyman says they would have pushed the total achievable value of the deal into the $50MM to $60MM range.

Big gamble for both sides.

1. The Pirates offered substantial money to a kid that played in all of 3 AAA games to that point.
2. Polanco turned down money that he may never see again.

Interesting for both sides.

I wish they could just agree on his deal now. This whole super 2 thing stinks! I wouldn't bring him up yet either if they can wait 3-4 weeks and keep him for a whole extra year.

He has an offer. I wish he would accept it. He becomes instantly rich. What if he gets hurt tomorrow and has this opportunity today?
