Yes it is too bad. I really think Penn State could play Pitt competitively this year. Most years in would be a win for Pitt and Ed was all about getting to 16 wins and NIT eligible.

You would never ever get teams to sign off on permanent ACC/Big Ten Challenge opponents. Maybe Pitt and PSU could start their own series separately. But within the challenge itself, it would be pretty unfair that Pitt would have to be stuck with PSU every year, wasting an opportunity to play a better opponent.

ACC Big Ten Challenge

Post by Crimson's Ghost »

Pitt fans hated the PSU draw last year, simply for the reason PSU usually is a bad team and they got paired with one of the Big Ten's worst. Most Pitt and all ACC fans for that matter look at this challenge and would pretty much rather see basically any team besides PSU,Rutgers, and Northwestern and most years, Nebraska.

On rotation, Pitt should get a home game next year and season ticket holders are hoping it will be a game against one of the Big Ten's elite. Pitt is opening the year against Gonzaga, they are rumored to play Kansas in NYC, and hopefully draw someone like Michigan at the Pete.

I'm sure PSU holds the same sentiment. Obviously they can't be too picky, but a game against Pitt or Syracuse and most ACC teams would be more hyped than Va Tech.

It seems Penn State gets paired with VT most every year.

I wouldn't write off Penn State hoops in the upcoming 3-5 years. They brought in Geno Thrope two years ago, Shep Garner last year, and have 2 top 100 recruits and another recruit around the 250 mark coming next year. They are also getting these recruits from VA, MD, Philly, and Pittsburgh.

So you have a taste of how a lot of Penn State fans feel about the Pitt/Penn State football series. Penn State only will have 3 OCC games, so basically the only "power 5" opponent they will be playing is a team that hasn't won anything in nearly 40 years.

I'm not really writing off PSU basketball in the future, but I'm not really counting on them being anything either. They may actually have a better record than Pitt this year, but past history shows us they may make the tournament once a decade.

I wouldn't mind Pitt playing PSU annually, just so long it isn't a part of the actual ACC/Big Ten challenge that was my initial point. It would be very unfortunate to have a chance at someone like OSU or Wisconsin, but then getting stuck with PSU.

Penn State has been bad since 2002. They had some really tough teams in the 1990s.

How Penn State fans feel about playing Pitt in football? Hmmmm. Yet they relish the opportunity to play Temple each and every year. And my beef isn't how the pairings go for the ACC/Big Ten challenge. It's how they decide who gets the home games. If Michigan goes into the Carrier Dome last night, you might see a different result. Same as OSU at Louisville. And Duke is headed to Wisconsin. So you got to take into consideration who plays who, and where they play. At least football bowl games are at neutral sites.

I mean playing against an Indiana team that was picked in the bottom half of the big 10 isn't going to win you over anything, and losing to them by double digits is horrific. As a Pennsylvania fan i'd rather see these teams play every year, if not in this then in a series, in every sport. Honestly the Governor should step in and make this happen.

PSU may have had some OK teams in the 90's, but they've had 4 tournament appearances since 1990. It is what it is, I'm on board if the teams want to play every year, just as long as it doesn't ruin a chance to play a better big ten team in the challenge.

PSU will probably want a two for one home series.
