This weeks basketball games
Re: This weeks basketball games
While I tend to be rather "objectively optimistic", even when watching my home team, I'm sure there are people that find that just as irksome. So be it. "Just the facts, maam. Just the facts." Checked MaxPreps. FH last started 2-0 in 2005n 9 years ago. They started 4-0, before losing their next 3, and finishing at 13-12 that year. Here is a taste of that brutal honesty: FH beat Windber on Friday, because,...Windber played more poorly than FH played, and Hook played great, coupled w/ FH making Free Throws in 4th. Here's the Optimism: FH beat BW on Sat., because they cut the Turnovers in half, and 3 people hit double digit scoring, picking each other up, a Total Team Effort. I agree w/ Manfred, that the ante gets upped this week. Hope springs eternal, even when I watch with a brutally honest eye.Manfred wrote:Crimson, I hope you're right! I am as critical of my home team as I am of others, maybe more so, since I see them more. I am a sarcastic analyst, for sure. This irks some, but I call 'em as I see 'em.

I saw in today's Tribune Democrap that Somerest only had nine available players for a scheduled game over the weekend. The decision was made to postpone the game. I remember a few years ago when Greater Johnstown's girls team won the 6AAA championship with just nine girls on its roster.

Who was the game against? Most schools are understanding if kids are playing football late in the year.

Shanksville-Stonycreek.
It was a Somerset hosted tournament. Ligonier Valley actually agreed to travel to Maryland to play its opponent in the opener. Somerset will play Shanksville at a later date. All four teams will gather on another date to play the championship and consolation games.

Yeah, most teams that go deep in football usually will have their games postponed s a courtesy. I've never seen an opposing school insist on playing.

The year Richland made a run in the state playoffs in football maybe 2 or 3 years ago, Berlin insisted on playing the game.

I think almost all of Richland's whole basketball was a football player too.
I guess Berlin really wanted a win over a JV team that year.

prob gave them "AA" points. I don't even know if they won that game. My nephew played on that team (Richland) and I remember him talking about it.

It'll be tough on BG. They were scheduled to play their opener tonight and then against Juniata Valley on Saturday and Westmont next Monday. If I'm not mistaken there are only 2-3 kids (and for sure no seniors) who are available now because the rest of the players are still in football. I would think they would have to re-schedule at least those 3 games (I can't imagine them playing on a Monday after playing in the state football championship Friday). The next scheduled game (according to Maxpreps) after those 3 is at Bedford on 12/19. Assuming they play that game it will be with only 3 or 4 practices under their belt.
It could be ugly early in the season and if they drop some games they might otherwise have had a good chance of winning, that will hurt the playoff seeding. Of course, given the ride the players are on now, you would make that trade off in a heartbeat.

Forest Hills moves to 3-0 after all. Penn Cambria beats McCort, and they move to 3-0.
Bishop Carroll 105 Johnstown 80. Carroll now 3-0. 105 points is a lot of points in 32 minutes.
