Recruiting question?
Re: Recruiting question?
But you allowed Cameron Norris to post his GPA and SAT scores on the recruiting forum.Coach wrote:Grades are private... that's not something that should be discussed on a forum.

I think it's one thing for a kid to post his own grades and another for a bunch of people that don't know to speculate.youngbuck wrote:But you allowed Cameron Norris to post his GPA and SAT scores on the recruiting forum.Coach wrote:Grades are private... that's not something that should be discussed on a forum.

Re: Recruiting question?
I could care less what his grades are, nor do I want them posted. My point is that there can be non-football reasons why players don't get recruited as well.
Too many guys get caught up in stats and size and don't think about things like "would this kid be able to handle college courses and a collegiate sport?" "Does this kid even want to go to a traditional college?" Etc.

Some good, valid points made on prior posts. Many times, we see stats, size, speed attributes, etc., and we make assumptions.
You know what they say about making assumptions.
One of my sons was recruited by D III schools, for the football position he played in high school. Only 1 of the schools he was recruited by offered a program for a Degree he wanted. He decided on that college, played football for 4 more years, and got the Degree he wanted.
One of my other sons was recruited for football by D I, II, and III schools,....BUT, not for a position he wanted to play in college (though he was good at that position as well). He was honest with the recruiters, and the football recruiting ended. He was also recruited by several D I, II, and III schools for a different sport (Track and Field). But, the time commitment (indoor and outdoor, year round) was not a commitment he wanted to make. He's going to a college, pursuing a Degree he wants, and he's not playing any college sports, and he's content with his decision. So am I.
As a parent, I helped both sons to be as informed as they could be, when they made Their decisions. I did not strong-arm either into something I wanted. They're young men at that age, right out of high school, old enough to go and die for their country. Old enough to plot their own course in life.
We, on this website, never know all the circumstances of a given individual, unless you're part of the family, part of the situation.
Bottom line, there is no magic recipe for getting a scholarship to any college, nor are there guarantees that it is a fit for what the young man/woman is looking for.

Re: Recruiting question?
Recruiting isn't as easy as only seeing stats and watching film. Most college coaches only need to see about 4 minutes of film to decided whether a player is someone they want to recruit. They don't look for a play with a wide open receiver making an easy catch, nor a LB bursting through the line untouched, a DB making an easy interception on a bad throw, a running back going 60 yards untouched, or a lineman crushing an undersized opponent. They look for a receiver running a crisp route and beating the coverage then accelerating away. They want to see the LB make a smart decision, beat someone or make a move at the line that gets them through the line. The want to see an OT hold a block, make a great move when pulling, see a DT playing along and up the line, not downfield they want to see a RB make the move, then outrun the tackler or plow/break through the tackle. The want to see the DB beat out the receiver for the ball. They know if they're are playing good or bad competition in 2 or 3 clips. They want to see a qb go through progressions, make good choices, read the defense. They also take into consideration things like is they RB a true RB, or an athlete with exceptional skills and es-capability in a system that favors them but won't translate into a true RB in college. (That is key for many kids, some are great in their systems but don't translate through. Same with Qbs.)
After they see what they like, the next thing they want is the players grades, they go to the HIGH SCHOOL coach to talk about things like work ethic, habits, school participation, character and if they're satisfied THEN they'll watch a players full game film to make sure they go hard every play. Then they start recruiting the player AND his family to see if they personally fit into the program they have. They want to know everything about the player. They want the players to get to their camps to get an up close look. They want to know if the player has peaked physically or will they be able to continue to grow, get faster or hold their speed. Stats don't mean much of anything and are usually the last thing they want if they want any at all. So to answer the original question, where do those players fit into all of the above?

Dragons its humorous to mean that you don't want to name names and grades when it comes to a dragon kid that you know with questionable grades and behavior but you have no problems any other time
