A fine evening of football
Re: A fine evening of football
LV wouldn't have any problems with Bellwood by the way people talk on here about them
Re: A fine evening of football
Such a difference between the haves and have nots. Bellwood won't get tested until game 8 when they play Mount Union. Should be a lot of playing time for backups the next 3 games.

what's everyone's take on that week 8 game? I can't get at great feel for both of them due to competition level...
Re: A fine evening of football
I think Bellwood is probably better overall. Not that I've seen Mount Union play. I'm just looking at past seasons. Not just varsity but following each class. Bellwood has had their number since jr high.SoftWalkinBigStick wrote:what's everyone's take on that week 8 game? I can't get at great feel for both of them due to competition level...

It's hard to look at those lower levels and project, but I guess they are a gauge to look at. (I know you aren't hanging your hat on those, just using them as a tool) When was the last time MU beat BA? Outside of the 2014 season... just wondering.

Max preps only goes back to the 2004 season. The only win in the past 13 years for UM was 2014. The only other close game was a 2008 play-off game that Bellwood won 19-14. The only other ICC teams to beat Bellwood in those 13 years were: Mo Valley in 2013 and North Bedford in 2015:SoftWalkinBigStick wrote:It's hard to look at those lower levels and project, but I guess they are a gauge to look at. Bellwood vs other ICC schools in that time period:
Southern Huntingdon 14-0
Mo Valley 13-1
Glendale 12-0
Juniata Valley 12-0
Mt Union 11-1
Everett 10-0
West Branch 9-0
Claysburg-Kimmel 6-0
No Bedford 4-1
Interestingly Bellwood is not the largest school enrollment wise in the conference: Mt Union (the largest), Everett, and Southern Huntingdon are all larger. They play Williamsburg for the second time this year. Williamsburg and Juniata Valley are less than half the size of Bellwood.

That's the info on Max preps anyway
Re: A fine evening of football
The problem ( I think) with ICC. The larger schools you mentioned don't carry their weight. Everett, Southern and West Branch ( also AA) have good seasons here and there. Mount Union should be challenging Bellwood on most years not every few . You can't expect smaller schools in the conference to challenge on a year in and year out basis . Which Mo Valley , Northern Bedford and Juniata Valley do hold their own most years. other problem is the conference agreed to bring freshmen up so they could have jv schedules. 4 games into season Bellwood has had two teams cancel jv games. Luckily tomorrow we play Tyrone for a second times thanks to last second scheduling .

Heritage is in the same boat. Marion Center will probably finish somewhere between 7-10, West Shamokin somewhere between 4-6.
When the PIAA switched to 6 classes it did absolutely nothing for the Shade's, Williamsburg's, and Saltsburg's of District 6. The ICC, WestPac, and Heritage should all merge (32 Teams) and form enrollment based conferences, that take geography into consideration but base alignment on enrollment and competitive balance.
Let's face it. Bellwood gets nothing out of playing Williamsburg and Ligonier gets nothing out of playing Saltsburg and vice versa. District 6 can do better by their schools.

You put juniata valley, Mo Valley, and others in a small school league and they would have a shot at a conference championship. With Bellwood there, they have little to no chance. That's not a knock on Bellwood either. I think they would be better served playing schools with enrollments from 125-190, Instead of 1 or 2 competitive games a year, they would probably get 3 or 4, and would make them a stronger play-off team.
