Re: Best Team in the last decade??
I personally think if you’re going to go small schools you would have to take a BG team since they won a couple state titles and what 55 in a row? Big school I would have to say Central has probably been the most consistent. LV had 2 good years but should in the conference they play in.

Re: Best Team in the last decade??
If it's last 10 years, in District 6, here is a quick refresher....
2008 - Bishop McCort and Central stick out for that year. That was Central's first year really breaking through, and they nearly took down Wilmington, the eventual state champs. McCort hung with Steel-High for a while, but it seemed that team set the stage for the 2009 McCort team.
2009 - McCort went 14-1 and lost to Clairton in Hershey, but they were pretty dominant all year long with Seidel and Domonkos being the stars. Forest Hills went 13-1 behind Nick Dudukovich at RB, unfortunately scheduling didn't allow McCort or Forest Hills to play that year. FH took a gamble with a 2 point conversion and lost to Wilmington in the PIAA playoffs. Johnstown won AAA, but lost to Forest Hills and McCort by multiple scores.
2010 - Johnstown had a nice team but didn't do anything in the playoffs. Individual talent however, was really good with Gervon Simon and Alkwan Williams. Forest Hills won AA behind another great year from dudukovich, advanced to the Western Final before a lopsided loss to South Fayette. 2010 was also Bishop Carroll's last hurrah, as they went 11-3 and made it to the Eastern Final in A. That was a nice team.
2011 - Tyrone was awesome this year with Steve Franco at QB. The win over Aliquippa in the Western Final was one of the more memorable games in recent history, and they battled a solid Lancaster Catholic team in Hershey. 2011 also introduced everyone to Danny Ferens and Penns Manor. They lost to state power Southern Columbia in the Eastern Final, but they dominated much of the season.
2012 - Probably Richland's finest team in recent memory. They were loaded with Shaffer, Solarczyk, and Flick. 14-1, hung with Aliquippa in the Western Final for a while. Really liked Bellwood-Antis this year, Seth Worthing and Casey Gray was a heck of a backfield.
2013 - The AA championship between Central and Richland was epic. Central won 27-22. Austin Cunningham was fun to watch at QB. Homer-Center defeated BG in the 2013 D6 title, that was BG's last loss before they lost to Homer this year.
2014 - This BG team was the first D6 team to win a state title since Tyrone in 1999. Brandon Chadbourn and Sam McCloskey was one of the better backfields I can think of in recent D6 history. Tyrone was AA that year, solid team but not one of their best. Somerset went to the Eastern Final in AAA. They went 14-2 with lone losses coming to BG and Archbishop Wood, 2 eventual state champions. Heiple and Barnes were very fun to watch.
2015 - BG just kept in rolling and substituted Brandon for Evan Chadbourn, who state player of the year this season. Another 16-0 state title. Another really good Central team this year behind QB Noah Benton. They beat a good Hickory team, and lost to Aliquippa in the Western Final.
2016 - OK, BG just went from good program to dynasty here. Evan Chadbourn tore his ACL in the offseason and they still went 16-0 and they beat Clairton and top ranked player in the state Lamont Wade and Clairton with relative ease in Hershey. Ligonier finally broke through after many years of playoff disappointment. Collin Smith was an absolute star that took them to the Eastern Final and battled Southern Columbia in a memorable game. The new classes emerged, and Johnstown had its deepest playoff run ever behind Exree Loe.
2017 - Obviously we know what Homer-Center did this year. Ligonier was strong again. Forest Hills was really good, and Bellefonte came from out of nowhere to have one of its best seasons in years.

Nice work Crimson!
Don't forget about the 2016 Central team that won districts by a combined score of 76-6, beat Karns City and then led eventual state champ Beaver Falls 7-0 in the 3rd only to lose a heartbreaker 14-7. Beaver Falls went on to win the state championship game the next week by 3 scores over Middletown.

Re: Best Team in the last decade??
BG and central are the two that sticks out.
LVs legacy is slightly tarnished as D6 A has appeared to be the stronger class for d6 than AA during their run.
Also should be a note for Berlin too!!! Theyve owned district 5 and even beat clairton during BGs run

Re: Best Team in the last decade??
LV when Collin was a senior beats any team mentioned on this list. Able to pass on any one mentioned and still would have to respect Collin on the Scramble.
Steve Franco s senior year at Tyrone would be number two.
Those teams would have handled the BG and Central teams mentioned. They were both strong enough defensively to force teams in to having to pass and neither BG or Central would have been able to.

The district was really down that year, Forest Hills was just babies witb a freshman qb and Juniata was an embarrassment to even be in the district title game. Karns City was terrible that year. Beaver Falls was playing without there best lineman in the western final.DragonsDoExist wrote:Nice work Crimson!

Re: Best Team in the last decade??
Michael Shuster had almost 10,000 passing yards in his career and threw for just 90 against BG in 2015 in the same game where BG only gave up 66 rushing yards as well. Could LV have beaten them, I guess sure on any given day. But handled? That's a bit of a stretch.EnzoLigoniere wrote:LV when Collin was a senior beats any team mentioned on this list. Re: Best Team in the last decade??
I still have trouble ranking them, but my top 5 would start with the five teams that actually made it to Hershey
SO starting with that...
1. 2014 Bishop Guilfoyle
2. 2011 Tyrone
3. 2015 Bishop Guilfoyle
4. 2016 Bishop Guilfoyle
5. 2009 Bishop McCort
After that, it gets tricky.
6. 2012 Richland
7. 2010 Forest Hills
8. 2015 Central
9. 2016 Ligonier
10. 2014 Somerset
It's not an easy thing to do, lot of good teams in recent history.

Re: Best Team in the last decade??
We are both biased but I disagree. They played each other 3 times the previous 2 years and none of them were close. LV benefited from the move to 6 classes.EnzoLigoniere wrote:LV when Collin was a senior beats any team mentioned on this list.
