i believe it was the '98 tussey mountain boys basketball team that won districts and then made it to the elite eight after upsetting elk county christian who was the number 1 team in the state. they werent flashy just played hard nosed defense and just totally shut people down. i also believe they lost the elite eight game to a team who had a 6 foot something illegal foreign exchange student

i dont recall of any county teams winning states (cheerleadings not a sport, so it cannot be considered in this discussion) but i do know that in both football and wrestling bedford has had some teams ranked very very very near the top. not sure if any were ever ranked #1, but i know several have been in the top 5 throughout history.

no bedford county team has ever won a state title in any sport? how sad something has to change.maybe we should lobby to get thumbwrestling as a piaa sport. then bedford county would be a hot bed of talent, under the watchful eye of foghorn.

nbc baseball thinking the 98 season with randy dicken who is probably going 2 make the majors hopefully someday as the best pitcher in the county maybe even in the top 5-10 in the state, mitch hoover, barton, potchak, conley, bowser, douglas, hale, nelson, this team was only a few outs away from the state semis but ended up losing on an error and a baserunning mistake great team great season great pitcher sad story

also a great team was the earlier 90's nbc basketball team with aj nastasi, aaron gable, jan snider, and those guys they were fun 2 watch and had incredible talent in nastasi but i think wound up losing in the later rounds in the state playoffs up at upj and also the nbc football team with nastasi, travis brown, josh martin, lucas miller, mike heck, those guys made it pretty well in2 the playoffs b 4 ferndale knocked them off in altoona at mansion park i loved watching those guys play football and they were a great team

NBC softball made the final 4 in the state just two years ago! They lost in the western finals.
The 98 hoops team for NBC lost to Kennedy Christian (now Catholic) in the playoffs. KC went on to win the state title. Their only other game as tough as the NB one was Juniata Valley in the next round. JV took them into overtime. NBC beat a WPIAL team this season (Our Lady Sacred Heart).
The 96 Panther football team made it to the final 8 in the state. They lost to Smethport after beating Ferndale in the interdistricts. I can't remember right now what Smethport ended up doing. I don't think they won it all, but I can't remember. Travis Brown led this team with his desire and showed me what Panther sports is all about.
Their was a baseball team around 93ish from NBC that lost to Mars. I think they were also in the western finals and lost something like 4-1.
