when your boys play teener league in mt. union they do good on the all-star teams, then they go to high school ball and looked lost or out of place. why? bad coaching, thats why. [/quote]
With the exception of the 2002 Pirates, none of the teams that SH has fielded has faired all that well in the MUTL. I don't believe the White Sox have even finished out of last place, but I might be mistaken. Last time I opened a paper, the Pirates and White Sox were in fifth and sixth out of six teams. I think we should wait for these boys to move to the High School team to pass judgment on the coaching at that level out at Southern. Southern has fielded good teams the past two years, give them and their coaches some credit.
Sometimes, I really hate being from Mount Union.

Re: SHC Baseball
In regards to this forum, it has been pretty heated and I dont want to at all engage in any of that. Obviously my real name is on here so I'm not here to write anything nasty or hateful.
As for coach Burkett, I'll be one to stand up for him as a coach and an good guy. Obviously I see all the practices and attend all the games. Our record last year (which i was not here for) gave some pretty big expectations for this years team. From what I've been told, we lost some big team leaders and play makers. Our pitching staff had some injuries and some things didnt go our way. But in no way have I seen Josh Burkett give less than 100% of his time and energy to these kids. I've been around the east coast from the college level to minor league baseball and back again. He is definately one of the best coaches I've seen and I dont think it's fair to put the losses on him, especially by people who have no idea what they are talking about. So those who assume he did a shotty job, your wrong. They didnt get it done the way they wanted to all the time, but as far as going 11-9 and 8-2 in conference, I for one am proud.

Re: SHC Baseball
No disrespect to you Trainer, but I don't recall anyone ever saying that Burkett didn't give 100%. Instead we were all just saying that he in no way can be compared to Imperioli. Not until he starts winning. And as a coach wins does mean something, wins define how good or bad you are. SHC only lost one main guy from last years team and that was Kasey Kuhns, so you can't blame their bad season on who they lost and on injuries. A good coach has his back-ups prepared to play incase there are injuries.
As for the guy who wrote about southern's teams always finishing last in our league, you're right. they do, but i wasn't talking about their regular season teams i was talking about all-stars. i think if you look at the skill level of southern players you'll find that they have been much more inproved since they started playing with MU. Southern wasn't even on the map as far as baseball until they joined MU's teener league.

Yeah but by the looks of things southern is gonna struggle after they lose this senior group Matt bare and such. The size coming up as in the size of the players is very weak everyone i have seen playing is very small. I dont know maybe they have kids not playing in the teener leagues and somewhere else.

Re: SHC Baseball
Well mucoach and monster I'll put the ball in your court.Burkett has something that Imperoli doesn't have .He has a former player playing NCAA baseball .Kasey Kuhns is playing for the red raiders of Shippensburg. And while Nick and the ever snidely remarking Athetic Director are having someone paint the 2006 district 6 sign on your billboard at the field ,they are probably doing nothing fror those seniors!!Now grant it not all of them are college material.Brown and Policino could play for ANY college around.as long as it isn't Juniata ,We Bearcats like to keep that for ourselves. No seriously ,do your homework crowers and tell me if the great Nick Imperioli has EVER in 33 years had an athlete play college ball ....and I mean more then playing til midterms come out!!!
Re: SHC Baseball
Well, Ole Bearcat since you asked, here are a few:
1. Corey Wertz(graduated from Lock Haven was the winning pitcherin the 1993 Stat Campionship game.)
2. Tom Bilger ( He was on scholarship at Shippensburg and started as a freshman until an ankle injury sidelined him. He subsequently transferred to Lock Haven.)
3. Jeff Knepper ( He was possibly the best Mount Union pitcher ever. He was on scholarship to a junior college in Georgia. He was the leading pitcher as a freshman as well as one of the leading hitters. He was also drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He left school after that year because of personal problems.)
4. Adam Williams ( He was one of the top pitchers on the State semifinal team of 1998. He pitched for Altoona campus of Penn State. He subsequently graduated from the main campus with a degree in engineering. He works at the Three Mile Island nuclear facility.)
5. Tim Hicks and Jason Arnold off that same 1998 team played third and second respectively for PSU Altoona. Subsequently Hicks graduated and teaches and coaches basketball at Mount Union.
6. Ryan Knepp was a stater on the 1998 team and played outfield for PSU Altoona and for Mt. Aloyisius subsequently graduating from the latter school.
7. Todd Sunderland was the starting third baseman on the 1995 State Championship team. He went on to play catcher and subsequently graduate with a degree in mechanical engineering from Cornell.
8. Adam Shawver, the catcher off the same 1995 team, went on to play the same position at Slippery Rock from which he graduated.
9. Brian Brown was a catcher on the 1980 State Runnerup team. He subsequently started his senior year for PSU main campus as a catcher and graduated from the same school.
10. Andre Martin who was a pitcher and infielder on the the first District 6 championship team of 1976, went on to be a starting pitcher for IUP graduating summa cum laude and now works for the IRS in Virginia.
Are these enough examples to show you how you let your mouth overload your brain in this circumstance? I can give you other examples, but I'll let these suffice. We have come to expect such misrepreentations from Bearcats. I guess you are no different. And by the way, coaches can help athletes get into colleges, but staying there is their responsibility.
