AE has done some great research on Div. I scheduling and I think we can all agree that most schools do the same thing....schedule a cupcake for a donation to their athletic program and guarantee a home game and the revenue that comes with it. Sad, but it's what it is.

As for WVU getting a shot if their undefeated, only time will tell. A lot of their scheduling problem is a conference problem and I still blame Mike Tranghese for this. Wouldn't be such a horrible schedule if Va Tech, Miami, and BC were still on it. WVU can't be blamed for that and it's not their fault that Pitt, Syracuse, etc. are "down" and Louisville appears to be the only decent team in the league. I can tell you that the Mountaineers proved they weren't such bad rep's of a bad conference last year at the Sugar Bowl though.

If the NCAA/BCS takes a shot at it away from them so be it, it will be very similar to the time the pollsters/Dick Nixon took it away from Penn State ('68 and '69) when they went undefeated against a schedule similar to what WVU will face this year so history may repeat itself. My point is their is a precedence (Also Auburn as was pointed out in this thread) and WVU might run the table and kick everyone's butt in the process and we'll never know if they were good enough because they may not get there.

I think there are a lot of people who are real high on WVU because it is cool and hip to buy into the new fad. That Georgia game was not the pinnacle of WVU supremacy like people think it was. Let's not forget that they almost blew a 4-5 TD lead, and it took a trick play to finally cut Georgia off. What I think we saw in that game was an example of an amateur coaching staff jumping out to a big lead, and then reality set in. Because the quality staff across the field started to mount a serious comeback. Rich Rodriquez's facial expressions during the Georgia comeback were the tell-tale sign: even in a win, that WVU staff got outcoached.

I'm not saying WVU wont be good, or that the staff wont be "pros" down the road, you have to be an amateur first, no doubt. But that staff still has a long way to go until they get to the top of the NCAA.

I think what we all are saying is: suppose Ohio State is 12-0, which is likely for I think they beat PSU at the Shoe and beat Michigan (as usual), and get by Texas...barely.... Now suppose that USC runs the table, or FL, or FL State. Who gets that invite to the BCS championship game? An undefeated Big Ten, ACC, SEC, (or even Big 12) team, or an undefeated Big East team?

I think the answer is clear: it won't be the undefeated Big East team. Maybe JoePa and Bobby Bowden, et al, are correct, that a play off is needed. It would at least give that Big East team a fighting chance.

I think Ohio State is going to be very good this year...i think with their schedule they might have some trouble and might not be undefeated...i think that if WVU wins out they will have a very good chance to play for the national title...if they come out and move their way up to the top of the rankings and then they dont lose than they shouldnt fall and that means that they shouldnt lose their chance at the national championship...I define a great season as a season in which the player and the coaches feel that they should win out and they do...and i think they have a good possibility to do this...no matter who you are or what team you are or what teams you play...winning all your games is a great season

We cant gauge WVU, is the problem here. Maybe they win every game by 4 TD's. So what? It doesnt matter if you THINK they are good, we have no evidence to support why they deserve the bid. That's what I'm saying. Does WVU need to let each team get a 3 TD lead on them so they can come back and win 49-21 every week, just to show people they can overcome adversity? Good question.

What I honestly see happening is that the commentators are high on WVU until about November. Then it becomes clear that teams like Texas A&M or Virginia Tech or whomever, have beaten quality teams each week. How can you honestly give WVU the nod over a team that goes up against Texas, OU, Nebraska, etc, almost every week? It's not rational.

It is not WVU's fault that Maryland sucks. But it IS their fault for the other OOC games on their schedule. And I still dont buy the "Big East exodus" story as a reason why, 3 years later, these teams STILL cant find an opponent that isn't Wofford or Liberty. You have had THREE YEARS. Time to stop making excuses. I have shown in that study that there are multiple teams availible in almost every given week.

At the end of the day, how can you not take schedule-strength into account?
