DNice...That's great! Call me and everyone else who isn't looking through 14K Gold Gazelles racist (that's usually the cop-out/sell-out for you Cryps and BFalls fans.) The fact is, that display of basketball by Ali-CRYP-pa was disgraceful and their behavior after the game was far worse. Thousands and thousands of other people saw what I saw, and a few hundred from the Falls and Cryppa saw what YOU saw. Now, go ahead and call me a racist again.
That game was the posterchild for poor coaching and undisciplined streetballin' punks. I was waiting for that to happen all season. The Cryps are nothing more than a bunch of thuggin' streetballin' gangstas and their behavior yesterday following the game proves my point.
It was OK when they were beating Center and Freedom and New Brighton by 1000 points, but when they have to lose with some class and dignity, FORGET IT!
The theme of Cryppa basketball: "All you gots to do is shoot tha rock and get yoself some cool Gazelles."

Ther are 2 stories goin' on here. One is the poor sportsmanship by Aliquippa, which I agree with. The other is, and I got to agree with D-Nice on this one, is the difference in how players on both teams were accumulated. One by getting kids from a local neighborhood with specific boundaries; the other by getting kids from thousands available in a large metropolitan area. Then both ending up AA and playing each other.

Now i dont know how it is in pittsburgh, but i know in johnstown public schools do have an advantage..thats right...an advantage. By the time public school kids get to highschool, they have played together since about 4th grade? Ask the westmont kids (or read every article in the trib-dem) they were great friends...and they knew eachother/of eachother for a while.
Now, i know that if i want to be known as the best, i want to beat the best...what if quippa does go on to win state and prep charter was still in the phili league...prep charter could say,"well we could beat them" but no one would ever know...the quippa players were upset because they lost when they should have won....
now someone said something about being racist, and being a hick....first off...i have cousins-in-law that are not white....so if someone says a racial slur it offends me as well....and as for hick...well i live in westmont...

Re: Sportsmanship...The only missing piece is ALIQUIPPA!!!!
I don't think anyone has disagreed with her point on Preparatory Charter for Mathematics, Science, Engineering and Career Training High School of Philadelphia's open (and free--no tuition required) enrollment policy.
I am tired of going to the small school Championships that amount to a re-run of the old PCIAA finals from the 60's and before.
Shade coops with Windber in Soccer and Windber gets socked with both enrollments and a "AA" classification. BG draws from Altoona, Hollidaysburg, Bellwood, Penn Cambria and beyond and can control their enrollment to just beneath the A/AA cutoff level.
To me Claysburg got much more out of their girls than BG did this year, state championship or not.
The other question is this....in an open enrollment school district (such as the city of Pittsburgh and Philly {but not limited to those cities as the Bedford school district does the same thing w/Hyndman}) should the schools play "up" in some way shape or form.
The Pittsburgh City League has a rule....they all must play AAAA or AAA....there are a few with A-AA'ish type enrollments. I would have liked to have seen Philly do that when they came in also in the interest of fairness. Prep Charter chooses to play with the big boys in the Philly Public League (and they beat AAAA semifinalist Simon Gratz for the title) but they then choose to play down in District playoffs as per enrollment.
Their are a couple of advantages in their situation.
That all said, Aliquippa was the better team and that is not any excuse for losing the game yesterday. You can complain about private schools and open enrollments all you want but the best team lost yesterday and everyone knows it.

Finally, Thanks guys for addressing the unerlying issue, but I guess the bottom line is, that similiar to national politics we can disagree or complain all we want, but there is nothing that can be done. or is there?

Well, to open up a large can of worms......
Make all private and charters play in the largest class due to the fact that they can pull in kids from anywhere. Or have a Public and Private championship tournament. Heck, in the interest of making more money have a public champion vs. private champion game.

Re: Sportsmanship...The only missing piece is ALIQUIPPA!!!!
Was Dfense wins games hit on the head recently or what? The only schools I know of where basketball is ORGANIZED at the grade school level is in the parochial schools. From 5th grade on, parochial schools in our area play in a league against each other, both in boys and girls basketball. Public schools don't have organized school basketball til 7th grade. Sure, some guys can take teams to the Windber Community Building or to the YMCA to play in leagues, but that doesn't insure that the same kids will ALWAYS play together for 12 years. Parochial schools also set up teams like this from 1st grade thru 4th grade.

A couple of comments here. I have seen Quippa 5/6 times in past couple of years & went to the recent game vs Jeanette...they do some things well defensively but their Off. is/has been totally unimpressive. I struggle with the best team lost comment....they are far from the best coached team & the antithesis of a well coached team evidenced itself 2 nights ago when they "walked off" in State College....that coach had no control/influence over his kids!! It was a debacle!!!
And on another matter:[quote="Dokkenball";p="138400"]
The PIAA must do something.

Get public school kids working to be as skilled as private school kids!!!
And another thing.....read this whole article in the Pgh PG....it pertained to to the new PIAA transfer rule.....which I have no problem with. What offended me was the whole impication that all transfers are public to private. Look in this area recently: A starting girl BBall player transfered fron BM to WH in recent yrs. (& everyone knew it was for athletics), a Sr. lineman from BM transferred to Jtwn a few yrs ago (knowing he could start), 2 Jrs. from BM transferred to Rich this yr & started Fb & Hoops!!!
Just 2 yrs. ago, in the WPIAL, 3 underclassmen transferred from the Sewickly Acad. team that went to the state title game......2 went to Quaker Valley (a public school) and were declared eligible...the 3rd went to Bishop Canevin & was declared ineligible - you figure that one out!!!!!!!
Say goodnight....
