Here's a name to throw out there. I have no inside info but Ron Walters would be a solid candidate. Asst. coach at Bedford last year and has extensive coaching experience in the LHAC.

Bedford does not allow administrators to coach..therefore kyle kane is out of the question..
Ron Walters on the other hand would be a great canidate..Ive actually played for him and he is a great motivator and coach. I would be very happy if he got the job.

Shoemaker and Kane would be my first choices, but thanks to the wonderful policies put forth by the school board, they will not be able to coach. The kids come first.....yeah right. Bob Shank was my receivers coach and he was very good and also a great person to be around. What happened to Damien Crissey coming back to Bedford to coach?

Walters would be a good choice outside the system, and Emerick may be also. I just have a hard time picturing him on the sidelines as a Bedford coach. I feel no matter who is head coach, the key will be getting good assistants. Bedford, until recently, has always had good assistants I felt. Everyone likes to put down Creps, but he must know something to hang around for 30-40 years. Of course people like D-nice, who have accomplished so much more as a coach, find ways to put people down. Kids always think they know better.

As far as kids leaving the system, that happens in every sport. The ones who really want to play and are dedicated will, for the most part, remain in the system. On every team there are kids who never get to play a down, except in blowout games, but they show up every day in practice just because they enjoy the sport and are a team player. Heck, I was a practice dummy myself, but I felt like I was helping the team.

I see no reason to change from flag to tackle football for little kids. They are learning the basics. For the most part at Bedford, there never seemed to be a correlation to how successful/unsuccessful the Jr. High teams were to how they turned out in varsity.

Flag football in Bedford is not part of the Bedford High School football program. What I mean is that the head football coach at Bedford has nothing to do with flag football at the early ages. He couldn't even tell you who the coaches are. You probably wont see him at any games or practices. It is run and organized by the parks and rec program. Soccer is the same at Bedford with AYSO. The head soccer coaches have nothing to do with AYSO and dont know or see the younger kids coming thru the program until JV and Varsity. Baseball is much the same too with Little League/Teener and Pony Leagues. The head coach doesn't know or see his kids until jr. hi. They are all seperate entities from the high school program. Dont ask me why that is. From what I hear the Boys and girls basketball are the only sports at Bedford where the head varsity coaches are responsible for elementary programs and have direct contact with the programs. They are responsible for picking coaches, where and when to practice and to also have the varsity players participate in practices. The elem. program is part of the high school program and both are directly connected. I believe the elementary and varsity wrestling programs are closely connected as well.

So whoever becomes the new coach at Bedford probably won't have much say in how the flag football program is run. He will only be responsible for jr. hi program and up.

Well, the new coach could have some say in getting an elementary tackle program started. We (members of the Bedford/Blair youth tackle football league) were told that the old staff didn't believe they needed an elementary program to be successful in the jr and sr high programs. Bedford is the only school in our area that doesn't have a youth tackle football program. If you talk to any area school's jr high (or sr high as well I'm sure) coaching staff, I bet they will say that having an elementary program that is teaching the basics correctly(stance, correct blocking and tackling techniques), is very beneficial to their program. Years ago before any schools in the area had youth football, the jr high coaching staffs spent usually the whole 7th grade year and some of the 8th grade year teaching these basics that, through youth football, they already know entering 7th grade. I will go out on a limb here and say that if Bedford wants to participate in our Bedford/Blair League, they would be accepted with open arms because when we started our program here at NBC in 2004, we were.

Amen - I agree 100% with Plumber Coach. I didn't want to beat a dead horse by posting the same message again. I'm glad there are others out there who feel the same way that many of us do in Bedford about tackle football before 7th Grade. It should be a priority with the hiring of the next head coach. Great Post, Plumber Coach!!

Chestnut Ridge Little Lions have been involved with the Elementary Football for a long time and we would help anyway that we can to help Bedford start a youth tackle program. Every year I get over 15 calls from parents wanting to play youth tackle football from Bedford and I hate to have to tell them they cant play outside of their School District. I think Bedford realized the importance of elementary football this year in the 7th grade game against Ridge.

We have monthly meetings at NBC and it would be great to see Bedford attend and to put together a Elementary program.

P.M. or post a new Topic (Youth Tackle Football under Elementary sports) if anyone from Bedford has any questions.

thanks CRLLF
