The problem with d6 AAA and AAAA for travel has been a problem for a few years now, I guess a WPIAL schedule look better than a d3 schedule that Altoona has played in the past. I haven't responed to Bull about Super LV belonging in the WPIAL. The girls basketball and softball are probally ready for that but the WPIAL doesn't spend more on those sports for coaching or facilities than d6. Bull would know the best about the track teams but as far as football, which this form is, as pionted out by a friend of mine who doesn't always post here and thoose who feel Ligionier would not be a whipping boy in WPIAL it would be no different the the 90's where in the LHC where Ligonier was 19-72-1 in football with 8 wins against vo-tech.

Cleaver,
Ligonier has had their ups and downs over the years. I think that they belonged to the WPIAL at one time where they couldn't compete. They were horrible in the 90's. That is why they sought entrance into the Heritage. However, they were a stalwart in the old Mountain conference in the eighties which was the predecessor of the LH Conference. I believe that a combined LV team back in the day would have been very formidable. Even when you played Cleav! Coach Page has always said that your senior year was his favorite team! Nobody thought that you would win a game and you finished 6-3! Your team easily could have been undefeated. You were in every game, even your losses! I don't know how you feel, but I'm concerned about the present situation in our district! I love Laurel Valley just as much as you, the Page's or Peck Gehring! However LV will never be the same again. I know that many are considering cyber school or Bishop McCort. I just hope that the parents of those remaining allow their children to participate in extracurricular activities. You know they only have one chance to reap the benefits of their high school years! For God's sake I'll drive their children to Ligonier even though mine have graduated!

great post tubby (again), but LV was 7-2 in cleaver's senior year. they were supposed to be decent. you may be thinking of the fall of '81 (class of 82) that lost all those players from the year before, and greatly overachieved. center was barely 130 lbs, qb was 127, and the biggest lineman that really started was ernie ritenour, who was around 180. georgie hall was a middle linebacker at around 130. lot of heart and coachability.

Thanks Costanza,
I was thinking that Cleaver graduated with my brother. My brother was 126 lb o-lineman on that team. That 1981-82 was the epitomie of Ram Pride! Costanza, I feel fortunate to have been part of the Ram Community for the last 45 years. We have been lucky to have some great kids who were able to win many championships with class and sportsmansip. God how I am going to miss this little country school. Again to parents and students who are affected, take your blinders off. don't deny yourselves the opportunity to participate in high school sports and extracurricular activities. You won't get a second chance.
I am serious in offering help for ank families needing transportation to Ligonier.

Ligonier was 8-1 my sr. year and pretty much had thier way with us in the scrimage. Even when Ligonier was a WPIAL member they only played the minium of 5 or sometimes 6 games againist WPIAL teams. This is how they still played L.V., Blairsville, Jennerstown-Boswell-Jenners and other d6 and d6 schools. I think 1969 was the first year that they belonged to d6. This was due in part to many of the small schools they palyed were merged and formed a new single high school. Examples being, Hurst, Ramsey, Trafford, Manor ect. 1982-1988 Ligonier was pretty dominate but one must piont out the all time Ligonier record is 100 games below .500. The Mountie web site is no longer in use or I'd link.

I see that the LV Rams will be playing the Berlin Mounties again. However this time it will be the Ligonier Valley Rams..not the Laurel Valley Rams. Berlin has replaced LV on the Ligonier schedule.

Straight from the LV Ram football web site. "The Ligonier Valley athletic department announces a week five opponent for the 2010 season. Baltimore Freedom Academy from Baltimore, Maryland will be the Rams opponent. The game will be played at Weller Field at 7 pm." This could be one of the most interesting match-ups of the season.

wow, "the ligonier valley athletic department announces...." sounds like some of these other "big-name" area high school programs that advertise in the tribune and announce coaches to ten year contracts! why not a press release!
