Re: Private Public School Debate
The real reason private schools have become a problem is because the large amount of schools in PA. there are too many schools athletically, kids are much more spread out causing talent to flow among everyone. Now that doesn't seem like a problem except for the talented kids want to stand out for recruiting and A and AA schools that just doesn't happen unless you are a winning program. Best way to make a winning program is to come together and get multiple talented kids on one team, AKA private school, and let them show their strength. I now live in washington where there is only 1 private school that matters, Gonzaga Prep. But they aren't a dominant power in sports just merely another good team. There are not as many big or small schools so talent isn't as stretched out and teams are better and end up being more balanced. The best players are getting noticed and there is no problem.
When you have 400+ schools to watch its easier to get noticed if 4-10 schools have 60% of the top athletes in the state. Private school have been around for ever in PA but the way sports works it just goes to their advantage. And lets not blame the kids because if they are getting offers to make their chances at Scholarships better why should they not take them????

Because transferring for athletic reasons is AGAINST THE RULES!!!!! Why can't people get that thru their thick skulls????
Re: Private Public School Debate
Really? I guarantee that a Bedford county private school could field a team in many sports that would be a legit state contender. Especially in the small school classes![/quote]usatf oldguy wrote:

Re: Private Public School Debate
Know it all, almost every year Bedford county has kids place at the state meet in track and field, wrestling is a no brainer as the last how many years a county team has placed high in team duals at states. Soccer teams have done well at the state level. There have been a lot of quality athletes in the past years in Bedford county in football and basketball teams too. Now imagine if you start to combine these kids to make one small single A team. Not only would they compete there would be years that they would definitely win a small school state championship! Privates need to compete in the playoffs against other privates in all sports! Rules shouldn't be bent to help private schools!
