Making Single A Fun Again
Re: Making Single A Fun Again
That’s right he come back home right where he belonged..with his friends that he grew up with. Unlike, what we are hearing up and down these discussions..public or private..?youngbuck wrote:No different than Kephart going to BC, getting plastered on here about transferring, then turning around after realizing BC was about to be really bad and going back to Portage where he proceeded to be a hero .
He decided to play for the better team.
Oh wait it was only because a teacher was mean to his big brother.

Youngbuck, I have no issue with someone starting and finishing high school some where, it's when the transfer happens mid career that eyebrows get raised. Who knows what the McGregor situation was, maybe his family couldn't afford it, we don't know. Can't believe you as a Forest Hills fan actually are defending this, would you still if Cecere had transferred to McCort? Because FH doesn't win a D6 title without him

We BG people are prouder of the school, it's history, academics, and standards than we are of the football program. We're also justifiably proud of the recent football run, celebrate it and don't hide from a fair discussion of what class BG should be playing in.TyBiggums17 wrote:You BG people have me wondering about one thing. People are saying there were no transfers on the 2014 team but you name 1 but say they didnt play. Thus making anything the others say irrellevant.
Also if he is playing now its a player who transfered in as a freshmen, not from BGs parachinal schools, who is starting now. Pulling talent from other school districts as a freshmen or a junior is no different.

The youngest Kephart that you're referring too didn't play a varsity down at BC when he was there as a freshman. The youngest and middle didn't even want to transfer to BC when the eldest did, but you do what you're family tells you. BC won the District title that year and the two youngest brothers were coming back to Portage the next season regardless of records or returning players.youngbuck wrote:No different than Kephart going to BC, getting plastered on here about transferring, then turning around after realizing BC was about to be really bad and going back to Portage where he proceeded to be a hero .

Is it NORMAL, in your opinion, for a true class 1A school to dominate D6's best conference, mostly 2A, 3A & 4A teams, going undefeated four years straight en route to the class 1A playoffs against undeniably weaker competition than they face in the regular season? If you beat the snot out of an 8 year old, would you be ''justifiably proud?'' What about the 8 different area school districts that contribute athletes to your team's roster of nearly 60 players? Idk if you're aware of this, but this is not normal for a class 1A team. None of it is. Be proud all you want, but anyone who knows better knows you're running a race in which you've got a nice head start. Oh and I'm sure you love the new 6 classification system. Your junior varsity could probably handle the entirety of the District playoffs and win the title since the teams that were the larger class 1A teams before are now 2A. Made your absurdly easy playoff hurdles even shorter. Don't be proud.Steve92 wrote:We BG people are prouder of the school, it's history, academics, and standards than we are of the football program. Normal? Certainly not. It’s only been accomplished a few other times in state history—by a couple of equally abnormal public schools as I recall.TyBiggums17 wrote:Is it NORMAL, in your opinion, for a true class 1A school to dominate D6's best conference, mostly 2A, 3A & 4A teams, going undefeated four years straight en route to the class 1A playoffs against undeniably weaker competition than they face in the regular season? You seem to miss a lot when you skim previous posts. I’ve said several times now that I’m in favor of BG playing up in the playoffs. I’d also like to see a bigger challenge at this time of year and I’d like to see some other programs have a better shot in Single A. I watched the Central vs. Forest Hills game and I thought that’s clearly the level of competition that BG needs. If you can’t live with that and you still want to tell me what I should and shouldn’t be proud of, then all I can say is "Peace, Bro".

I would hope you aren't comparing what BG is doing to what Clairton did. Clairton is a liitle town of 6,000 people, a depressed area at that, where football is all the kids have. During their run they had rosters in the low 30's. Tyler Boyd, Lamont Wade, Aaron Matthews and others didn't live 10 miles from the school, the entire town is only 3 square miles. The average offensive lineman during this run was 5'10 215lbs. Yes, they had phenomenal athletes but they were all born and raised in that little town.Steve92 wrote: Normal? Certainly not. I can't wait for the next few weeks to see what BG does to these good single A teams.
I'll be very interested to see what BG people have say to when BG elects to stay in Single A, despite their roster projecting in the 50's for 2018-19. Heck, maybe they'll try to get in the ICC.
Re: Making Single A Fun Again
I’m not reading through 11 pages of crap so I’m just jumping in but.... yes wheeler is a good coach, No it’s not right that they can “acquire” players from the city of Altoona or surrounding schools, there’s a reason they’ve won 30 state titles in a row. They can get 1-2 difference makers over the summer and in single A 1-2 studs make a difference, Yes Clariton would have dominated the past few years but did you know there are also some very very loose and open transfer policies in the city schools? Don’t think all those kids start there either.Sure they got blessed with a few local standouts but that helped to draw a few others in. Southern Columbia is also a well coached team who pulls some shady stunts. So if you think someone is winning over and over and over again you are smoking something... in a normal A school setting you are lucky to get special groups of kids every 6 years or so. That’s how it typically works in public schools. You could have the best coach and offseason program in the world but your players have to physically have to be able to preform too. So as for the jv vs hc game you are wishing to see it’s not gonna happen! At least probably not any time soon. Sorry sport
