It makes sense to say Pitt stunk for 15 years. They were like Temple is now.

If PSU was or would be like that for a period of time that long then I'd say the same thing about them. If you stink...you stink. Remember out of the last 6 seasons, PSU had a 9 win year and an 11 win year. It wasn't 2, 4, 3, 4, 5. It was like 4, 5, 9, 3, 11.

Pitt is #2 behind ND because of location geographically. If they were in the B10, then yes playing them would be great as they'd be in our conference.

Uncle Earl, OMG, I can't believe you pulled that one out of your backside. Is he still kicking? I can't wait to bait you and HR into a discussion on this topic next fall!!!!!!!!

Miami plays both FL state and Florida? I might be wrong on that one. Georgia plays georgia tech. Virginia plays virginia tech. Kentucky plays Lousiville. I could go on, but come on we all would like to see this rivilary renewed. I dont want to hear about reasons why they shouldnt renew this game. I want to hear reasons why they should renew the game.
Every one of those teams can stand on their own monetarily without the help of the other school. Pitt cannot. Those schools make tons of money without even scheduling UVA or Georgia Tech or whomever else.

When we're discussing PSU as a powerhouse, we need to develop what the measurement here is. Are we talking "can legitimately win the national title" or "program size"? Because even though Nebraska and Alabama have suffered in the recent past, those teams are still national powerhouses in program credibility and tradition. Pitt is so far away from that level it's almost a joke. The evidence for that is the horrific attendance in the years after the national titles. You have no sustained credibility, and every one of the fence-rider fans that went to games in Oakland immediately came back to Penn State the SECOND they were doing well again. Pitt suffers when Penn State succeeds, and it has NEVER been vice-versa.

Just to sum up what i had intended this thread to be about. I was surprised how awesome the Pitt football training facilities were. The kids who play ball there are in a top notch practice facility. Pitt had a really good recruiting class this year and I think they could have another decent one next year. Was impressed hearing Coach W talk and speak about the program. Also i stated would be great to see PItt, Penn St and WVU all be in top 15-20 in the nation year in and year out. Penn St and WVu have the better chance of being top 10 top 5 teams. Next Fall is crucial for Pitt and Coach W. ANother bad season would find him on the hot seat. I see them struggling again next fall but in couple years see them maybe get to that 7.8,9 win season. If not Pitt could be looking for another coach. ALso , playing in a NFL stadium is pretty sweet for these kids. But the fanfare is dissapointing.

But as we have all know, recruiting means nothing if you can't have them maximize potential. The top 3 coaches at Pitt need to be fired before the players ever succeed. Those coaches are historically incompetent.

Maximizing potential??? That must be why JoePa let Morelli play a few plays as a freshman, which cost him ONE year of eligibility. And don't forget benching Austin Scott for a year. That really did him, and the team, some good.

Did Wanny take pride in the number of treadmills? We all know his thoughts on running.

Catching Slaton and White is one mean job!

Coach Wan said in paper other day after spring game that they are faster on defense. I saw them scrimmage couple weeks ago and Defense got the better of the offense. tyler Palko was getting little perplexed when I saw this scrimmage couple weeks ago at the lack of protection. He was trying to stay positive but he was also getting upset. Someone said one guy had 4 or 5 sacks Saturday? Now either he is a stud or the Pitt off line is in trouble. Off did not move ball much this past Saturday. I still think in couple years pitt could be pretty good.

ff1- Just a question how many other major universities training facilities have you seen??? If you only seen Pitt's how are you to say it was great when you have no others to compare it to???
Just wondering??? I know Pitt has some of the better in the nation becasue of the use of a professional field but I am sure WVU, Nebraska, Texas, Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan are not to far behind.

They use the same facilities as the Steelers, I'd hope they'd have top of the line equipment. What a great recruiting mask... Can't build your own tradition, so live off of one of the most successful teams in all time NFL history... Brilliant...
