Re: Election Countdown
foghorn: That was pathetic. Even for the LA times to run a total fabrication. I'm an avid reader and I never heard of this guy. He's no Tom Clancy! You keep believing this left wing propaganda if it makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. Ignorance is bliss I guess on the left.
But hey we have freedom of speech if your on the left so this trash gets printed. But if your on the right Kerry's NKVD will do anything to take the freedom away.

This guy is the Shakespeare of espionage novelists. If you've never heard of him, that says something about you, not me or the LA Times. I'm deeply disappointed. I can lend you some of his books, though. Always ready to help out the needy.
You Kerry fearmongers are shameless. (Are you the guy that's been putting up "Kerry Will Take Your Guns Away" signs along the Ridge Road??!!)

Nope - I didn't put those signs up, but let me know where I can get some and I will. If you don't think he will, just wait and see. My 11-87 will have to be hid in a hole somewhere until a Republican gets back in office.

Re: Election Countdown
The President isn't the only one needed to pass gun laws. Half of Congress and half of the Senate are needed as well. Recently, the 30 year long handgun ban in Washington D.C. was repealed by Congress, and the assualt weapons ban was not renewed. I don't know if there's a need to worry about your 11-87 yet.

Re: Election Countdown
flea: if the 2nd Amend. is that important to you then Vote for Bush and have no doubts about your gun ownership. Kerry in the WH and Clinton in the UN watch out for your guns.

Re: Election Countdown
Hmm, that is true southpaw, but Bush passed the Patriot Act as well, and continues to push for it to stay on the books, which is also quite oppressive. He also sends our troops over to Iraq without adequate training and adequate equipment. He is also unwilling to admit he is wrong about WMD. So I honestly can't vote for Bush in good conscience.
I know you love to make all these comparisons of Bush to Lincoln in the 1864 election as far as Democrats lambusting him about the war. Guess what? In my view, the southern states joined the union voluntarily, and they should be allowed to leave voluntarily, so that war shouldn't have been fought either. Yeah, yeah, we would have lost the union, but in winning the war, we lost most of our constrictions on the federal government. The war was about state rights vs. federal govt. power, and federal govt. power won. So if you don't like the power of the federal government to levy a heavy income tax upon you, make you pay into Social Security that may not even be around by time you are able to collect, and tries to take your guns and your free speech away, blame Old Abe, as he started most of this mess.

flea - that was deep.
If you blame Abe for too much federal government, you'll never vote for a Republican. I don't even know how to respond to you.

Re: Election Countdown
Think on it once though. If the South had won the Civil War, would the federal government be so powerful today? I'm not saying Abraham Lincoln was a bad man, but the war that he waged (and won) is the reason that the government began becoming more powerful, because now they were sure that they could put down any rebellions. Sides, the Democrats have plenty of plans for spending too, as well as a more powerful government. So I'm not saying that the Republicans are evil for doing that, I'm just saying that since that war 140 years ago, the rights of the states have gone downhill.

Re: Election Countdown
Flea I'm impressed we're not that far apart on a lot of issues but Kerry is for TOTAL gov't control of you and everything you own. He's an elitist that like Clinton that will stop at nothing to gain more power a New World Order of quasi-socialism worldwide. Think of this if Kerry wins. Kerry: President, Hilary Clinton: Chief Justice of the Sumpreme Court, and Bill Clinton: UN Secretary General. A Triumviate similar to Caesar, Crassus, and Pompey! Rome went on a 400 year decline after their 3-way dictatorship and their democracy died with it as Caesar became emperor!
Now the Lincoln/Bush comparison. I'm only comparing their similar situtations and conditions not the men themselves. Lincoln only passed the income tax to pay for the war it didn't become permanent until 1911 I think.
If the Civil War ended in Southern Victory the US wouldn't be what it is today. You probably would have had an "American Balkanization" with Texas becoming an indepentdent country along with California, New England. The Southern States probably would have then invaded Cuba to establish a maratime empire and would have escalated the Spanish/Confederate war 20 years earlier. Texas would have expanded south and west and would have been at war with Mexico. WW I probably would have seen the North allied with Germany and the South allied with France and England. I say this because Southern Civil War victory would have come with recognition from France and England thereby alienating the North.
So you see "lost cause" believers like me don't see a two nation continent if the South had won the Civil War. By the way this would have in my opinion happened if Stonewall Jackson hadn't been killed at Chancellorsville two months before the Gettysburg campaign! But that's another topic.
