Chestnut Ridge Opens all Fall and Winter coaching positions
Re: Chestnut Ridge Opens all Fall and Winter coaching positi
Well, the Association might not like the move, but it seems like a good idea IF the desire is truly to evaluate all positions and all teams. Of course, that takes time and energy to do properly. If, however, the move has been done purely to bring about the one big change everybody has been talking about lately, it sucks. The hard facts are that certain sports are in the spotlight while others aren't. For the spotlighted sports, poor records and/or poor coaching are cause for concern and have the attention of a lot of people, especially those who have the power to initiate and bring about change. For those sports that aren't in the spotlight, the majority of people (except for some parents, the players themselves, and a few former players) teams with mediocre records and poor coaching are of little concern.

Foghorn is right on the money as usual. My biggest problem is if they want to change one coach then open that position and be up front about it, unless it would be difficult to fire the football coach because he has not doneanything that warranted him being fired and has had winning seasons. In other words, their reason for doing this has nothing to do with how he is coaching football? If he is doing so bad then call him in and say we are opening up your position because you did not win or did not do what is asked of by the district. Has he had winning seasons? Has he developed kids into responsible young men? Has he taught them new skills and insight into their sport? Has he raised their play from Jr. High to Varsity? These are legitimate questions that I do not know the answer to because I am not close to the situation, but I would hope someone on heere would be able to answer them for me and someone from the board should be finding the answers to.
Is this how it is done in the REAL world? How many businesses would open all jobs in the company because they do not like how ONE indvidual is soing. Using their philosophy, shouldn't all teaching jobs be opened and re-evaluated if they do not like how ONE teacher is teaching, and that is why the association is fighting this.
Sorry for the rant, I just got on a roll.

While the football coaching position might have been the catalyst for opening up all positions, I think some members of the board have realized that there has been some underachieving to some degree across all sports.
Re: Chestnut Ridge Opens all Fall and Winter coaching positi
While I am not shocked by the boards decision to open all the coaching positions, I think that it is a totally GUTLESS, move by a bunch of people who clearly don't have the balls to step and make their real desire known. They clearly want Wilkins out at Chestnut Ridge. First and foremost I don't understand why they would want him gone. When he took that program over it was a absolute laughing stock, the only game they could win was agaisnst Johnstown Votech and I'm pretty sure that they don't even have a football team anymore. They have gotten better every year under Coach Wilkins. They have had 4 or 5 winning seasons in a row(when was the last time that happened at Ridge) they are 36-15 in the last 5 years, and they have been to the playoffs all 5 of those seasons. I'm not sure what it is that Coach Wilkins does or doesn't do that the AD, the administration or the board doesn't like. Maybe they have valid complaints, I don't know. As a coach myself it drives me crazy the way all this stuff gets done in such a slimy way. If you don't want the guy to be your coach anymore, fine, you have the right to make that decision, but be up front about it, give your reasons and then move on. I think the problem here is that they whole community in Chestnut Ridge is a good ol' boy network and Coach Wilkins is an outsider. You know "he aint from round these parts" but they don't want to come off that way so they have used this tactic to cover their own behinds. I will be very interested to see how many of the open positions are filled by the exact same person that held the position before. I am sure that football won't be one of them. For the people who brought up the money that is being paid to coaches I can only say this, no one that coaches a sport does it for the money. At the end of the day the amount of money you make as a coach is not very much compared to the hours you spend preparing and at practice and at games and fund raising and going to booster meetings (etc.). I think you get my point, and I didn't even mention having to deal with parents who's feel their son or daughter doesn't play enough.
I really hope that Coach Wilkins applies for and gets the Bedford job, because I am sure he will take great pleasure in beating Ridge year after year. I would look for the mercy rule to be applied in those games. Good luck to Ridge, they are going to get what they want.

Sounds like Chestnut Ridge is taking lessons from the Westmont SB.
Re: Chestnut Ridge Opens all Fall and Winter coaching positi
---- I would hope that all coaches feel like this, but I don't think they do. I'm not saying this about Wilkins. Overall he has done a decent job, but couldn't seem to win the big playoff game.no one that coaches a sport does it for the money.
Re: Chestnut Ridge Opens all Fall and Winter coaching positi
he would have been better prepared for playoff games if CR was playing bigger and better schools all year long. This was proven by them hanging with BM this year as well as PO in the past. Playing the Williamsburg's and Glendale's off the world isn't what is needed to win an AA playoff game.

EXACTLY, and when the chance come to get into a "AA" league ( long distance travel) some one got cold feet and
did not want the WINS to dissappear.
did not want the WINS to dissappear.
Re: Chestnut Ridge Opens all Fall and Winter coaching positi
I really dont see what the problem with dan wilkins is. He deserves MVP for SOCCER. Most of Chestnut Ridges starters for soccer this year, went to soccer b/c they did not want to play under coach wilkins. Whats there not to like about him? His game plan is easy. run the ball 95% of the time and use the same running plays to do so.

What happened to the days when you played a sport because you liked that sport not because of who the coach was????
If your saying Ridge's athletes played their 'second' choice sport because of a coach then that tells me everything I need to know about the problem. Do you think if Dave Bailey Coached Wrestling at Tussey (and he would probably be darned good at that too!) all the basketball players would become wrestlers???
