BIG, AA Boys Basketball is the most competitive basketball classification in the district and state. If Roman were to move up to AAA there are what about 8-9 AAA schools in D6 if you give or take a few due to classification changes. There will be at least 20 or so odd AA D6 schools. If you were to move on into the state playoffs. I would take my money on any one of the AA Finalists over a AAA Finalists.

colonel, i believe thats Big's point exactly. Westmont probably, (along with every other D-5 and D-6 school) have absolutely no chance at a run at State College. however, a very talented J-town team could once again make a run at States with a much weaker AAA bracket thru the west.

I have seen the state games for the last 5 years and almost if not every year the AA teams are better than the AAA teams in the finals....

just to add something to this whole conversation about who the next coach might be but i know that mostly all the players want the 9th grade coach to move up and become the varsity coach for next year. Whether this will happen or not, who knows? From knowing most of the players i feel that getting the 9th grade coach would be the best move for the fact that all of the players highly respect him and most have already played for him.

I don't know much about the 9th grade coach at Johnstown, but I know that he is not a better basketball guy or as highly respected as Coach Roman. And I would think that the Trojan players would like to be a force in the LHAC, and district and state playoffs, then to underachieve. I think that Roman should stay at WH, but he could do a world of good for JHS. He's made the 'toppers a proven winner in the LHAC and D6 for several years, with good and not-so-good teams.
Is the A.D. position even open at JHS?

THE ONLY POINT I WAS MAKING WAS THAT ROMAN SHOULD GO TO JTOWN IF THEY IN FACT WANT HIM. HE HAS DONE WHAT HE CAN FOR WESTMONT. HE HAS TAKEN THEM AS FAR AS HE IS GOING TO TAKE THEM. I MEAN FACT IS FACT, AND I THINK MOST ON HERE WOULD AGREE THAT WESTMONT IS NOT GOING TO GO TO THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. THEY MAY WIN MANY MANY MORE DISTRICT TITLES AND MAY WIN A GAME OR MAYBE EVEN TWO GAMES IN INTERDISTRICT PLAY. ROMAN IS A VERY QUALITY COACH BUT I FEEL HE HAS TAKEN THEM TO THE TOP AND ITS TIME TO STEP ASIDE. AND TAKING THE JTOWN JOB WILL NOT BE A LATERAL STEP IT WILL CLEARLY BE A STEP UP. MOST YEARS JTOWN IS MORE TALENTED AND MUCH MORE OPPORTUNITY FOR A LONG LASTING RUN IN PLAYOFFS.

IM NOT SAYING THAT THE CURRENT GROUP OF JTOWN PLAYERS IS GOING TO MAKE A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP RUN LIKE THEY DID A FEW YEARS AGO. I JUST THINK THAT ROMAN WOULD LOVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO CUT THE NETS DOWN AND I THINK IT SHOULD BE OBVIOUS TO EVERYONE THAT HE HAS THAT OPPORTUNITY AT JOHNSTOWN MORE THAN HE HAS THAT OPPORTUNITY AT WESTMONT.

I MEAN HOLY HECK COACH CAL CAN PROBABLY TESTIFY THAT MAKING A RUN WITH WESTY HAS GOT TO BE WAY HARDER THAN IT WOULD BE AT JTOWN...HE COACHED AT WESTY, HE HAD SOME GOOD TEAMS. IM SURE HE THOUGHT GOING INTO A SEASON HE WAS GOING TO BE IN HERSHEY CUTTING THE NETS DOWN. THE DOUBLE A COMPETITION IS JUST RIDICULOUSLY HARD AND VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO OVERCOME.

SO HILLTOPPANTHER, NOT THAT YOU CARE MY OPINION BUT IF YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY EVEN THOUGH I SEEM TO BE THE ONLY PERSON ON HERE THAT THINKS YOU WOULD BE BETTER OFF, GO TO JOHNSTOWN.

So what your saying is that Dave Roman has a chance at getting to the state championship game?? If this is true how did Westmont beat Johnstown both times that they have played them during this mediocre season that the Hilltoppers' had this season?? Don't get me wrong, I'm in no way trying to call you out or anything, but Roman knows the kids through the Westmont system, either from them being ball boys, or going to his fathers' camps. If he would have wanted to leave by now, he would've, cause this past season put a damper on the other great seasons that he had at Westmont. So he knows the kids, who are coming up, and must see something special in them, and that is why he is going to stay. From following my son around this year in basketball, whenever we came across Westmont, they seem to be a top contender in my books to be coming out on top of the LHAC this year, with a whole crew of the boys' returning for their junior or senior seasons. As for Johnstown, they didn't seem to have anything special, and i see them towards the middle of the LHAC. If Roman wants to go to a school and take a few years to rebuild a respectable system, then by all means do it. But he has worked hard with these kids, and every year (with the exception of this year) always seems to have one of the better clubs, even if he is not that high on the talent level.

First of all, you are talking about the 9th grade assistant coach. There is no way that Johnstown will hire a person with no head coaching experience and no varsity coaching experience. They would be better off dropping the program.
