I have watched many matches both HS & College, ref.position is a matter of sequence. I have watched many coll. wrestlers mess it up. In the Ripple/Sollenberger match Ripple was called at least twice for touching navel & elbow at the same time. You have to follow the sequence. After his last caution did you notice that Ripple started to put his hand on his back then with other hand went to the navel then came from his back to the elbow. The ref. was calling what he was seeing. The wrestlers needed to do what they were taught to in the right order. Like I said I have watched college wrestlers mess it up a couple times in the same period so don't hold it against these two. The important thing is to learn from it.

Yeah, I couldn't see what you guys are talking about from my angle. It looked like movement was the reason for the caution twice. Wasn't it the 215 pound match that McDannell got a caution point against him also?

Yes, it was. All of his were for movement. Two in the netural position, one in ref.

This is something they are leaning on even in youth wrestling....at the State College tourney this weekend, I saw about 10 cautions on just my son's mat for this. My son had a couple of those himself, but I'm glad they're teaching them at a young age so it is not an issue later on during their career.
