Or maybe we can chalk it up for what it is...
Another questionable move by Ken Salem and the Crimson (and crooked) Crushers.

But shouldn't the QB of a team know the situation? Again, it just looks bad.
Also, saying McCort "wasn't going to make it anyways" is hogwash too. If you aren't going to make it, then why call it? Unless you wanted to work on it as a coach, in which case you should have KICKED THE FIELD GOAL.

All right, I am very sad I missed this one. This is a fake that our holder and I pioneered my junior year I believe against Central Cambria. They would rush super hard from the outside and would leave me, the longsnapper uncovered, they even went to the outside eye of the guards. We talked about it and there was a massive running lane right up the gut. So I snapped a little high to get the holder off his knee and he took off. Now it was not in the same game time situation as the one they faked the other night.
At McCort, the holder, QB, and middle linebacker all have the option to audible out of any given play, at least that was how it was way back in my day. One such example was my junior year when FH stacked the outside to take away the perimeter game, they left the middle wide open. I thought we were running the tailback behind me but saw our qb take off for 50 yards right up the gut. The following PAT, the holder called an audible and threw the two point conversion to our wing.
With all that said, there are times in games, that individuals make poor audible choices. Another example is on the spot pass. Every team I know will run the spot if the corner is off the line giving the Wideout a good deal of space. I believe it was my senior year, the spot pass was called, backup qb was in under center, underclassman was out wide, the CB was pressing him, so they audibled to a go route, scored with us already being up huge, and Salem reamed out the lot of them.
So what I am saying is that calling audibles does happen, and there is a trust between McCort players and Coaches. The ability to change the play does carry a great deal of responsibility. Number one you have to deal with the outcome if your idea doesn't work, and you have to deal with the outcome when it does. I think it speaks a great deal about the relationship and trust, sometimes misplaced, that the McCort coaches have in their players. It is also a serious weapon in a game. If you can change your play from the line when you see an opening is huge, you can save time outs and just plain old confuse the heck out of another team. i hope it wasn't called from the side line, and i doubt it was and I hope there was yet another reaming out. Or at least a strong discussion about when running fakes during certain situations.

a much better system is for the coach to make the following calls depending on the situation:
a: kick the field goal. do not audible
b: kick the field goal. you should audible to fake if you see...
c: fake field goal
there are situations where audibling even if it looks ok could be disastrous. it all depends on who you are playing and game situation. mccort should consider modifying their system

Well the system worked when I played, but when your the head coach at any school you can run whatever system you want.

When I played at Laurel Valley in the early 80's and until Coach Page retired it is very hard to see a holder or even punter calling for a fake. Although I do don't know much about the LHC on this matter I do know it is very common to see holders, punters and even up backs on punters calling fakes in the Heritage Conference today. Some changes are not alwyas for the best,

Does Salem let his punter call a fake punt anytime he thinks it will work????? Calling an audible from the line of scrimmage during a regular play during a game happens all the time. A QB under center can see some things that will make him run a different play during a game. But calling a fake field goal on his own is just crazy. You mean to tell me that if BM is trailing late in the game by three points, and it's 4th and goal from the 5, Salem would welcome the holder DECIDING whether or not to kick the field goal or run the fake????? Talk about trust all you want. That's just aint'a gonna happen.

I know that Bailey has in the past told his middle backers and blitz when they feel like it. So here is another example of a well respected coach allowing his players to do what they want.
