Re: Super Conferences
If Tulane was the SEC, which they used to be BTW, why wouldn't they have a chance to win? Kids would go to Tulane to play in the SEC.
When the dust settles and we see which non-BCS universities are absorbed into the mega conferences, it will be very interesting. Let's say the SEC does take someone like SMU or Tulane. They will immediately get a big recruiting boost. Instead of having to battle w/ Southern Miss and UAB for kids, now Tulane will virtually automatically get that recruit. My worry is in who gets left out.
If FSU bolts for the SEC, now the ACC has 11. But it wont just be FSU if the conferences go to 16. G-Tech will probably go. Now (w/ A&M) that's 15. Who is number 16??? Miami? Virginia Tech? What if it's Miami? Now the ACC has 9 schools. They will go to 16. Pitt? WVU? Syracuse? Louisville? Won't the SEC take a very hard look at Louisville?
Look, it is infinitely interesting. I'm excited about all of this. But it's a short term happiness for me, like buying Jake The Snake Roberts t-shirts on ebay for $30. 2 weeks later I am asking why I did that.
I just dont want to see us get a playoff at the expense of all these lower-revenue schools. And 2 wild cards is not enough.

Re: Super Conferences
They will have to have 4 super and 2 other conferences. It will then have to be a playoff system. With the winners of the conference championships getting an automatic in to the playoffs. Let record and conference play decide the rest of the 12 or 16 team playoff. The rest of the teams that have at leat 6 wins can still play bowl games.

Which no one will watch.
Because for some reason, now you all think Maryland vs Wake Forest is somehow more exciting.

Re: Super Conferences
Four super conferences will be great for that level of play, but it will kill the mid-majors and being a fan of a mid-major team (Air Force), that sucks. I know they have no chance at being a national championship contender, but it still sucks that their games are going to be even less meaningful than they are now.

Re: Super Conferences
You will never see another Air Force game if the mega conferences happen. There are so many hours in a day and there will be so much focus on those mega conference teams that no one else will even be televised.

Well maybe if they stay in one of the "mid-major" conferences, I'll get to see them on the new mtn. equivalent. The Ancient Enemy wrote:You will never see another Air Force game if the mega conferences happen. Re: Super Conferences
You continue to miss the point. It's not about Freson State or Air Force or Temple. It's about the fact that those universities will be cut off from television money. At some point, Kirk, you're going to have to accept the fact that there's more at stake here than your selfish want of "better games each week". I'm still curious why you'll be all-of-a-sudden glued to the TV to see Wake Forest and Clemson.

Re: Super Conferences
Can you show me where I said Im looking forward to Wake Forest playing Clemson? Oh that's right I didn't. I will tell you what i am looking forward to. I am looking forward to there being conference championship games that mean something. Im looking forward to there being a true national champ. I am a fan. I am not the President of Air Force, Fresno State, or New Mexico State. Not only do I not care to watch any of these teams, but it really doesn't matter to me if they get money from TV. Sorry if that is appalling to you, but it probably won't make a difference to me.

Re: Super Conferences
There are 78546 television channels nowadays. I'm sure a "Sun Belt Network" will develops out of this. Heck IUP and Bloomsburg was on TV last night, those left out of the Super Conferences will still find a way to get air time.
