Eliminating program
Re: Eliminating program
Yea, Geibel will play a full schedule... I'd assume this is their last year though.
Re: Eliminating program
I spoke to folks today from Blacklick and they had no idea. The AD at United was informed via email this morning, luckily with Imani folding and their kids heading to RCA that left a hole in some schedules and they were able to reach a deal with Bishop Canevin.
Is Rockwood still fielding a junior high team?

Between the Rockwood deal and teams getting allowed to count a 10th game of the season towards their playoff points....It was not a good day for Mustang Football thats for sure.

I would say it was a worse day for the kids at Rockwood and Turkeyfoot

Re: Eliminating program
I think Rockwood was a little disingenuous about this whole thing, how do you report 26 kids and have 11 for a scrimmage? Maybe it was 11 who expressed an interest in the team. They should have gone by how many were in camp for actual practices. If you have 11-12 kids whatever is was in week one you should have a pretty good idea that you are not going to have a team. Did they assume they'd be able to recruit kids once school started, then have them go through the three-day acclimatization period. So let's just say they went Monday-Wednesday with no pads, they would have thursday to practice which is usually a walk-through for teams who play Friday night, then they would play Friday night? That is moronic. The new coach should have been beating down doors upon his hire to try to get kids out for football and the decision should have been made a lot sooner. This affects a lot more people than just 11 kids at Rockwood.
Ferndale it has been reported has 20 players, yet most people familiar with the program say it is more like 14. So what happens if during the season they can't field a team? You could have West-Pac teams losing two games instead of just one.

Re: Eliminating program
The team scheduled to play Ferndale would just then play the team scheduled to play Rockwood if that team is unable to schedule another game.
Actually a bye week and a nine game schedule should be welcomed by some of these affected schools.

Re: Eliminating program
According to Rockwood's coach he had 42 signed up in the spring and had been beating down doors to get more out. He had 19 at the beginning of the 2nd week of practice (injuries, vacations, & kids choosing to work have cut down #s). This really sucks for the teams affected by it. I wouldn't want to scramble around to find a game. Do the teams get to count the Rockwood game as a forfeit if can't find another opponent?

Re: Eliminating program
I'm sure it would be welcomed, but PIAA requires a ten game schedule
Re: Eliminating program
The PIAA does not require a ten game schedule. The WPIAL plays a nine game schedule.

Re: Eliminating program
It is in the best interest for the D6 teams to add a 10th game, since only 8/23 teams qualify for playoffs, and it would be seeding suicide to not play a game.
I feel most bad for the 11 players for Rockwood that wanted to play this season. They won't be able to join up with Somerset or Berlin.
But did I read the one WestPac coach was complaining about making a trip to Pittsburgh for ONE game, citing travel distance? I'm sure the Chestnut Ridge people laughed at that.
