I can see why Central had a hard time with Williamsburg last night. With Williamsburg being the cream of the crop with 3 wins over MV, Glendale and PO. #:-s

3 Happy.......First off, luckily NBC was able to get Philipsburg last night even though PO scored twice as many as they did against Williamsburg and was in the game through the end of the 4th quarter....NBC showed zero heart and/or desire against Central the other night. Tell me, how can Cunningham, Lafferty, and Volkommer, all around 5'8, stop your big guys ? Your "big 3" combined for like 10 points. None of them even hustled on defense the entire game. One of them was even more interested in crying to his coach and even got pulled from the game. Coach Free should have sent him to sit with his mommy. Williamsburg is a proud basketball program and played great against Central but Central weathered the storm and fought back from a 10 point 3rd quarter deficit rather than pack it in and "quit" after the first five minutes of the game. NBC is fortunate they did play PO because Williamsburg's heart and desire would have defeated them as well. Central didn't play that great of a game against NBC but didn't need to with getting an early lead and just played Reggie ball and took the air out of the ball. I was anxious to see Central press NBC but there was no need for them to as NBC had trouble dribbling the ball against moderate pressure.

Central is playing better, and although a very small team in stature, battles relentlessly and refuses to give up. Cunningham coming back provides huge leadership. Slagenweit has experience and is a clutch shooter. Lafferty is playing better each game and played Gripp from Tyrone even up the other night and hit 6 pressure foul shots in the last minute of the game as Central beat Tyrone. They also have role players who are starting to grasp what the team needs. I feel they will get stronger and more confident as the year goes on and will be a tough team to play come playoff time. Losing Patterson will surely hurt as he was the team's best rebounder. This team is quick, athletic, has 4 guards that can run the offense, and are nearly impossible to press.

It's just one game early in the year so don't give up on your team yet. I'm not sure but can you contact piaa and see if you can get a play over ? :-?

The fact is, boys' basketball in the WPIAL/Pittsburgh Metro stinks from statewide and nationwide perspective. PGH metro area is weak in terms of turning out D1 boys' players.

On the other hand, the WPIAL turns out at least a few D1 players a year, and an occasional high major (McConnell and Thorpe most recently).

Who is the last D1 BOYS basketball player from Districts 5/6? Eisentrout??? That was almost 10 years ago.

Also Luther from Hampton is a high major (Pitt) this year, plus Rowan from Lincoln Park is already a Pitt commit.

Now let's make a fair comparison Titan. The wpial is how many times bigger than district 5? They should turn out 20x the div 1 athletes as district 5.

Drew Shubik from North Star went to Liberty and played in either the NIT or NCAA Tourney at least one of those years. I'm sure there is a few others but he's the only one I could think of offhand.
