But on a serious note, It's beyond athletics. It's a trust issue with the leaders of the school. They deserve endless criticism. Have a field day everyone.

The same people who care about cheerleading?
How many people at McCort truly care about the football team?
Was Bishop McCort's future in doubt a week ago?

I would say a lot of people if you are asking my opinion.
There used to be 4,000+ people at the Point Stadium on Friday nights when the team was good.

The school didn't make a mockery of a decision a week ago, so probably not.
Re: Artrell Hawkins
I think the primary reason parents send their kids to Bishop McCort is still strong.
What percentage of kids at McCort are Catholic? 95%+?
All is well.

In the last 10 years
-- McCort has gone from AA to A.
-- Richland built a new school that has caused many students from St Benedict's to attended there instead of McCort.
-- The number of parochial feeder schools went from 7 to 4 and not one of them sits in the city of Johnstown. Thus forcing the long standing parochial league to shut down and have 4 schools and 2 grades down to just one football team.
-- The school had a scandal that reached national news.
-- They removed the principal that was excellent at his job while the principal during the time of the scandal still has a job with the diocese and is likely being protected by them.
-- The celebrated football program went from 14-1 to back to back 2-8 seasons and 4 head coaches in 5 seasons since Salem left.
-- The school is being saved by an influx of Chinese exchange students.
-- The school disgraced one of its most famous alums by hiring him and consequently pulling the job 5 days later.

Re: Artrell Hawkins
My guess, which is a complete GUESS, as I have no ties to BM, would be that because Davitch resigned Tuesday, and Mr. Hawkins was hired Wednesday - the protocol that wasn't followed as the position being advertised. That would be the most likely I think. A DUI charge, while not ideal, isn't a deal breaker when coming to hiring coaches. I know a few (3 or 4) who've had them and they are coaches at other schools. Maybe it's a BM thing that they personally don't allow it, but as far as PIAA, it's a non issue. I'm hoping they do go through the proper steps and hire Coach Hawkins, I love going to competitive football games, and I think he can make BM competitive again. The more competition the better it makes everyone.

Interesting that 1, 4, 5 and 7 are about football.
You could argue that 3 is too.
Because of 3 you have 4 and 7. Of course 4 was replaced by another football guy.

1,2,3 are all about enrollment actually. And Salem wasn't the coach during the time he was let go, so that's not football related either.
6 and 8 were about football

How did I miss #2?
I don't think Richland ever sent that many kids to St. Benedict's. Stonycreek Township and the half of Geistown Borough that sits in the Johnstown school district sends the bulk of the kids who attend St. Benedict's. St. Benedict's also draws kids from Windber, Conemaugh Valley and Forest Hills and probably beyond.
What is the enrollment at Bishop McCort? What is the girl/boy ratio?
