hmm
I expect Mock to win the 3200m run at the PIAA AA meet. I think that Spooner from Lewisburg, who has already run 4:09 and 1:52, will be doubling or tripling while Mock will likely only run the 3200m run. Fresh on Fresh, I'd take Spooner in a 3200m race against Mock.
AAA is another story. Ian Fitzgerald from North Hills has already run the equivalent of an 8:59 for 3200m and ran a 4:08+ in finishing SECOND tonight to Booth from West Mifflin, who ran a 4:07 and ran 2:01 for his last 800m!
Fitz has the potential to break the long-standing PIAA record of 8:58.9, held by Upper perk's Mike Connelly since 82 or 83.

Mock
I never said Mock was a "wuss." I respect what he's done. he's proven to me that he's capable of running well in track, something he never did before this season. I just think that logically, Mock's only shot to win a title is running fresh in the 3200m vs. Spooner, who will not be fresh. I can't blame Mock for choosing his best event in an attempt to win a PIAA title. I would do the same thing, unless I had the talent/legspeed of Fitzgerald or Spooner, who I think could both be double winners if all goes well for them.
I saw that Mock ran 4:18 in the 1600m tonight...that's certainly a very good time and his 9:18 after running so fast in the 1600m is very impressive indeed.
Think about this for a minute: Fitzgerald will be Mock's teammate at William and Mary College next season and Fitz ran 4:08 in the 1600m tonight. Fitz has also run 8:59 for 3200m. Thus, as good as Mock is, he likely won't even be W and M's best frosh runner next season. That's a great problem for W and M's coach!!!

Mock saved himself for the 3200 a little bit during the 800, but he still came in 4th place with a 2:05, then had to run the 3200 about 10 or 15 minutes later. He came in with a very fast 9:18 to set the two mile record, and that was done less than a half hour after he finished his 800. Not bad for one evening, really. Also, I thought Westmont won the AA boys 4x800 relay with an 8:10 or somethign really close to that. Elk County Catholic may have been second there.

I guess it's a good thing Mock did not wuss out and save himself for the 3200....otherwise Bedford would have won.
I do think Bedford will get the best of Westy at the LHAC meet. Westmont will still get about the same points with Mock, Kanuch and Eanes (although Mock could also add the 800 for the points). However Bedford will not have Ligonier, Windber or Penns Valley taking points away from their hurdlers and jumpers. A smaller meet favors Bedford.

Meets like West Central Coaches and States put more emphasis on individual talent than depth. Both Ridge and Bedford beat Westmont this season, due to a better all around team. But Westmont captured the meet last night because they have some outstanding individuals. Bill Creps said that it really got him that a team they beat in double duals captured West Central over them last night, but such things happen. Double dual meets place more emphasis on the team as a whole.

careful with ur wording there flea, though ridge did beat westy this season...it wasnt a dual meet, it was a quad meet with the top what? 6 placing? it was pretty much a small scale invitational...there is no way that head to head ridge is better than westmont, we barely beat westy (78-72) and we had a pretty easy time of it in fishertown (102-42)
