you guys are picking out all the bad apples. Think of all the good people you know that are Christians. You will come up with a lot more than you think. It is just like other countries saying all Americans are druggies or all Americans are fat. It is all what the news gives publicity too. If you have any questions on Christianty read the bible and talk to a good preacher. It might do some of you a world of good.

Yeah talk to a good preacher. Let me ask you, how many people thought they had a good preacher, and then 10 seconds later that guy was nailed for watching little kids dance around naked or got accused of molesting one of them?

But I "pick out all the bad apples", yeah right. Preachers and radio hosts, people with the Christian voice, are the ones who are violating children. Notice I didn't say anything about regular parishoners.

I have me a theory on the subject, feel free to poke fun and tear it down as always.

Maybe when these Priests were younger, they felt an attraction toward men or children. They felt it was unnatural, but none the less this attraction was there. Thus they joined the priesthood, which usually did not allow for wives. This way there would be no questions as to why they were not married or seemed to have no attraction for women. However, as they became older, they were put in more and more situations in which the temptation arose. So, with their will weakened over the years, they finally succumbed. Makes sense sort of, eh?

first off TAE...it was a long time ago and that post had been deleted so i couldn't properly quote it. and you say you'd rather have el-moldo than a priest? and i'm assuming it's because of the child scandles...that is so weak. I have never met a priest like that and i probably never will. I have been an alter boy for a numerous amount of years (including two priests at my own church and serving for the bishop at the cathedral) and the most a priest has ever touched me was a handshake.

and do you have any idea the percentage of priests that molest kids is less than 1%?!?! there are child molesters walking the streets that you don't know about. Like ridge drummer said, a few bad apples make the whole bunch look bad.

Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.

Really Count? Are there really child molestors I don't know about? Nice argument.

Count, you have to understand that the amount of priestly child molesters is above the national average, not below. That is why it is a big deal. Oh, and the phrase goes, one bad apple makes the bushel bad. Not look. There is the whole thing that one rotten piece of fruit actually speeds up the rate of decomposition of those around it.

However, when the apples are spread out, one bad apple doesn't affect the others. It only happens when they are in a group. Priests are spread out all over the place. Therefore since they don't associate or live as a group, the bad apple theory does not apply here.

As much as I completely despise organized religion, I want to make it clear that I don't think all priests, deacons, reverands, and so forth, are all terrible, child-molesting people. I, too, was an altar boy for many, many, many years, and I had nothing but great experiences with the priests I served mass alongside. The first priest I was under was one of the best people I ever met in my life, and if that guy got nailed right now for child porn, or someone accused him rightfully of molestation, I'd more than probably burst into tears. I probably attended to mass with 3 priests at my own church, but sometimes we would go to other churches as well, and I'm not counting those priests that I was an altar boy for on an occasional basis. Even as I started to wise-up and realize the complete and total hyposcrisy that is the Catholic religion, I have had nothing but good experiences with those priests I knew back in the day.

But a lot of other people would say the same thing about their priests, too. Then you wake up one day and see his picture in the newspaper or catch his name and image on the morning news broadcast before going to work. The point is, you never really know. I think it is seriously pathetic that I have to feel myself "lucky" for being able to serve mass with 3 or 4 guys who were, as to the this point, not child molestors or into child pornography. Not lucky in a sense that I myself wasn't involved, but that none of the others were, either.

I don't know the ratios, but what's the ratio of Catholic offenders vs. the other sects that allow marriage between the head of the parish and a member of the opposite sex? I'm willing to bet the Catholics are pretty victorious in that little competition. How many more kids need to get affected by this crap, or how many more older people need to come forward with the truth before the ban on marriage gets lifted? Is it so bad for a priest to be married?

Very interesting TAE...i learn more about you every day. I think also that the ban on marriage for priests should be lifted. And as for the spread out thing...Where have MOST of these occurances happened...When i hear about a priest scandle why is it usually in Boston?
