VAD1,
I for one was in no way trying to pick a fight with El-Moldo. Rather, I was simply trying to enlighten everyone as to the rules that do exist regarding transfers and how loss of eligibility is avoided. As a matter of fact, I share an opinion similar to yours. The following is post I made on another message board during the football season that just finished...

I am sure this response will provoke or offend some of you and for that I apologize in advance.
In this day and age where accountability is a long forgotten virtue I place the blame for the "unfair advantage" afforded to the Catholic/private schools squarely in the laps of the parents who send their children to these institutions FOR ATHLETIC PURPOSES ONLY. If these parents truly had their children's best interests at heart they would not be allowing these kids to transfer. Unfortunately the allure of having their child's name associated with a high profile program, such as Bishop Carroll or Bishop McCort, or the hope that their association with a program such as those will open the door to post-secondary athletic/educational opportunities that otherwise may not have been available is too great for some parents and, as a result, they allow it to cloud their decision-making process.
Don't blame Brad Cashman. Don't blame the Pope. Don't blame the school administrators. Don't blame the coaches. AND, MOST IMPORTANTLY, DON'T BLAME THE KIDS! BLAME THE PARENTS BECAUSE IT IS THEY AND THEY ALONE WHO HAVE THE POWER TO STOP THE KIDS FROM CHOOSING A FLEETING MOMENT OF GLORY IN HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS OVER A SOLID FOUNDATION FOR THE REMAINDER OF THEIR LIVES!
Please remember, I am in no way insinuating that the education provided at any private school is sub-par to that provided by the public schools. No one can make that statement and support it considering the private schools are not subjected to the same testing requirements as the public schools. My point is directed to those cases where the transfer is, without question, for athletic purposes only.
I am not a Bishop Carroll alumni or even a supporter for that matter so don't take this last statement out of context. Don't single out Bishop Carroll. Bishop McCort takes as much advantage of this situation if not more than Bishop Carroll does. For example, one of the programs that seems to be talked about regularly on the message boards is the program in Windber. There are three sophomores from the Windber program on the McCort football team this year. Two of those three are starters. Windber ranks right up there with Westmont and others in statewide testing results. Are these three young men getting a better education at Bishop McCort than they would have at Windber? I don't know the answer to that question. But my point remains.
IF THEY ARE NOT GETTING A BETTER EDUCATION DON'T BLAME THEIR TRANSFER ON THE SYTEMS INVOLVED, BLAME IT ON THE PARENTS WHO ALLOWED IT TO HAPPEN.
IF THEY ARE GETTING A BETTER EDUCATION THEN MY CONGRATULATIONS TO THE PARENTS FOR HAVING THE CHILDRENS' BEST INTERESTS AT HEART.

Re: Crushers Land Merriman
And I have previously posted that in the last 5/6 years numerous students have left McCort for obvious athletic intents......but for some reason that is never brought up/questioned . Rizzo & Szcur both fb & bb starters @ Rich. transferred recently, a westy bb player recently, a Jtwn lineman just a couple yrs ago, a young lady who was a track & hoops star to Westy 4/5 yrs ago, one of Larod's lineman 4/5yrs ago & few people know that BM turned down an upper classman from CV in recent past, fearing that someone would challenge & the young man would be declared ineligible....they turned down his family's request looking out for the best interest iof the young man!! But none of these cases are focused upon.....what's the agenda behind the focus on the parochial institutions?????? And BM signed off on all these aforementioned transfers - again, why hurt youngsters.
Personally, remembering the foundations of this country's existence and honoring those who have fought for our freedoms, I have no problem w/ either scenario in this debate. In short, this is the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!! Freedom of choice exists, thank God!!! And that (choice) is @ the heart of this controversy. How condescending to judge parents based on their educational decisions for their children!!!!
I believe athletics is certainly seperate from school choice & one has to accept whatever parameters are set by regulatory agencies but please do not clump the two issues, it reeks of uglier concens!

Re: Crushers Land Merriman
Indeed which should thank God (btw Jesus Loves Us) for the freedom of choice that has been made available to us by both the founders and the soldiers and sailors. I believe I know who the student you were referring to that was "one of Larod's lineman." I think this is also the Jtwn lineman just a couple yrs ago that you are referencing. I think this kid ran into some academic or other situation involving the now principal at mccort (didnt report to "minicamp on time" or something of that nature). The track and hoops star may have left because westmonts track and hoops were far superior (Vman they actually have a track) and their academics are just as strong and wait heres the kicker, you ready for this she didnt pay tuition! Ding Ding Ding same great education, much better sports (played for the state title) not at half the cost but at no cost! Maybe you should study another great aspect of our country its called the free market system. Those 2 student athletes , I emphasize student because I believe they are both outstanding students, transferred to a district where they lived their entire lives. I am not sure why you drag these two kids names through the mud by constantly stating their names and associated it with an athletic transfer, while at the same time not stating anyone elses name in your whole post? I do not believe that LB was a FB player at mccort and I do not think the WR/LB even lettered at mccort. They did not transfer into a powerhouse, richland had one what a few games in the years prior to their arrival. Throw a few of mccorts scrubs on the richland team and you have a pretty successful program. Do you target these young men because they may reverse the trend of mccort getting every catholic kid comes out of the richland area? Not sure if you know, but Richland just built a brand new school that may hurt mccorts enrollment numbers even more...Vman let it go, your wrong (IMHO) and your old, so you may have forgotten some details, but for gosh sakes your agenda is so transparent its disgusting. I leave you with this Vman your school accepts senior transfers with less than explemary conduct and academics while (some not all of your examples) are honor students who transfer and are rarely in trouble.
So lets sum this up McCort will accept anybody no matter how late or how much trouble they are in, if they play football and Vman is mad when great students with good conduct leave because they dont want to be a part of that so he smears their names through the mud, but coddles anyone that is willing to transfer not matter what their record. I will give one last example of how transparent and senile you are. A kid who you probaly would know plays hoops for mccort after transfering from his district he leaves transfers back and is one of the best players on the team, but you never even mention this flip flop lets drop it because I do not want to intentionally smear anyone. You just have no clue about high schools sports and what they are all about (IMHO).

Re: Crushers Land Merriman
First of all, I did not bring it up! Then I'm Wrong?? You missed the whole point of my retort & call me wrong??? Have you ever heard of reading comprehension????kingdomofcrush07 wrote:IVman let it go, your wrong (IMHO)
I was, in essence, supporting these people & their choice to transfer!! I was also emphasizing the reality that, like you, many ignore these facts....choosing instead to focus on the parochial institutions! I am not/did not challenge any of these transfers or question their families!! Just brought up the fact that the 'Haters' conveniently don't mention these cases when attacking BM, BC & others!vman wrote:Personally, I have no problem w/ either scenario in this debate. I learned a long time ago that when one misses or distorts a clear statement they are being driven by deeper emotions.....in this case I believe it's the HATE!!
But we have to sprinkle in some personal attack:
Why do I have to be old?? That would be like me going down to your level & calling you stupid!kingdomofcrush07 wrote: your old, so you may have forgotten some details
BTW, your is a possessive pronoun.....you wanted the contraction for you are (you're).....were you in Honors English @ Westy? Besides Reading Comprehension, tutorials in grammar are also offered on BleacherCoaches!!
I have to say thank you to me ..." for not being stupid enough to go to Penn State."
Re: Crushers Land Merriman
Vman, that last comment wasn't nice. Im sure Westmont's educational performance can stack up quite nicely against anyone in the area. I am sure we could go back and post grammatical errors committed by anyone on this board, including you. Why the constant mudslinging? We can continue to bring up points of merit on any of these subjects, but I find that bringing a persons grammar skills into a debate is a last ditch effort to make a point.
