I've read this whole thread, great posts.

One thing too is that a lot of coaches think they are bigger than the school. A lot of basketball coaches (just an example) might encourage kids to stay away from other sports. They are selfish, and they lie to kids about their future potential in the sport. This is an athletic department problem, and ppl like that need to be fired.

You are not the baseball team. The baseball team falls under the school umbrella, not YOUR umbrella. This kind of selfish coaching has ruined a lot of kids athletically because they are steadfastly discouraged from playing other sports and "risking injury". Until ADs start to get tough and change this crap, it will never stop.

They get burned out playing something they don't wanna do. Some kids are forced to play sometimes and sometimes they need a kick. I almost didn't play a sport that I had always played my junior year, and my dad drug me up to practice the day I said I wasn't and to this day... I gotta thank him for it. Parents need to grow a set when it comes to some things and relax in others...It all isn't the kids fault and it all isn't the parents...plenty of blame to go around

This is one of the best posts I've read on here.......I HATE it when parents say 'well he just didn't want to play anymore so I let him quit'---be a dang parent, and make them finish what they started.
