Re: The Public's vs The Private's.....
So basically...let's say that Kyle Flick from Richland with Tanner Stull from Somerset transfer to Southern Huntingdon. Along with Casey Gray from Bellwood-Antis and Mike Newhouse from Homer Center, igniting a huge chain effect forcing Chestnut Ridge into the newly formed West-Heritage-Inter County-Mountain-Highlands Conference and Bishop Carroll into a rematch with Blairsville due to a past falling out. Prior to the game, Carrolls defense with their exotic blitzing scheme, puts a bounty on the Blairsville Bobcat Mascot. This in turn persuades Aliquippa from the WPIAL to play a non-conference game against Northern Bedford. Forcing the Bellwood-Antis Blue Devils to drop the "BLUE" from their name since most of their color scheme is YELLOW. Making Portage abandon the Wing-T it has ran for years and convert to the Spread Offense. Causing Coach Franco of Altoona to come back to Tyrone to take back over his once beloved Golden Eagles and facing the now loaded Southern Huntingdon in the class AA D6 championship. In turn causing Berlin Brothers Valley (A) to challenge AAAA Altoona High for the right to own Mansion Park and year passes to Altoona's Lakemont Park. But in the end the alarm clock goes off and you wake up because it is all a non-sense dream lol The bottom line is ya win some and ya lose some. Someone has to win and someone has to lose, no ONE person makes a team. Football is the ultimate team sport. Can't we all just get along???
All I know is this...Whatever team scores the most points during the game, each game they play, all the way through playoffs will win not only districts but a state championship!!! The simple yet perfect game plan

Are you referencing Cody or Caleb Kephart? Because I believe Portage has a shot at a title with Caleb.youngbuck wrote:How many titles did Blacklick win when Julock transfered back?

Yep one kid makes a difference.
Especially after how terrible BC was last year, I am sure that they thought, "Boy if we just had Janosic, we could make the playoffs and beat Bellwood"

There are 4 teams with a shot at the title. Let's not kid ourselves in which private school most of this talk is about. All the post clearly reflects history of Bishop Carroll not Bishop guilfoyle. But hey Bishop guilfoyle has won as many championships and been to less finals than portage in past 15 Years I believe
Re: The Public's vs The Private's.....
ONE player transferring to another school affects TWO schools; the team they go to and the team they left. Think about it. Kephart from Portage to BC, Merriman from Westy to BM, Janosic from PC to BC. ALL of these examples show how ONE PLAYER makes a team MUCH better, and HURTS the team they leave. Where would the above teams be (or would have been) WITHOUT that ONE additional player. Just one. Are you guys blind or naïve?

In single "A" one good athlete can make all the difference.

Kudo's to El-Moldo and Ramfan. In Small time Class "A" one player does make a difference.
As far ar "reaching out" for athletes. In the heydays of Southern Columbia did anyone ever
follow their ever growing roster.
As far as the privates schools in "helping students" BG is normally quiet with the exception of
Girls Basketball. In football though we must look at BC. That roster is full of widely spread
home addresses.
But thats the monster the PIAA has created for the playoff runs and they will not change it.
A few states have private schools playing one classification up.

Re: The Public's vs The Private's.....
Look at Richland. There is 2 reasons for their success the last couple of years. First, the Richland Rockets program that imitates the parochial school football system. Second, we have kept our boys at home. 10 to 15 years ago half of our 25 seniors would be at McCort an they would be 9-1 making a run in the playoffs and Richland is 2-8 watching the playoffs from the bleachers. Look at Westmont. There is 16 players from Westy on McCort's team. If Westmont keeps there boys at home they go 6-4, they make the playoffs and McCort can't field a team this year!

If you think there is a problem in this area you need to look state wide. As much as you guys want to think BC is reaching out to these players, they are not, I can't speak about BM. But on a state wide level especially in Philly there is a real problem and especially with the new charter schools.
If you separate the public and private it will only get worse.

I remember reading and watching quite a few stories about Southern Columbia's recruiting trail and how hard they would compete with neighboring AA power Mount Carmel to get the best students to come and get the "better education" at their school.grasshopper wrote: As far ar "reaching out" for athletes.
