Interesting the Jays picked up Smoak off waivers. With encarnacion and Lind they're setting up for a deal. But with who? Two most likely teams are Bucs or Tigers. Another interesting turn, looks like Maddon is in chicago.all that young talent and money to spend. Cubs will be trouble.

The Cubs are always a sleeping giant, I still think the Pirates are in a good position to be competitive in the Central for years to come.

Me too. But cubs could push Central to best division in mlb. Epstein and Maddon together will help them get back .

Re: 2015 Pittsburgh Pirates Offseason
The more I examine season numbers and splits from first half to second . I'm more in favor of bringing back Volquez than anyone else of the starters. And his first "big" contract would be way more affordable than first or 2nd tier guys. And realistically , that's what we need is an inning eating , consistent #3 , because your big boy Cole should be stepping to the front now. Morton, Volquez, and a Tallion/Kingham spot would be 4/5 of your rotation(putting youngin at 5), and leave you room for another arm like a McCarthy or Kennedy.... That's a stretch but doable

Has anyone heard a timeline for Tallion? The recovery time for TJS can range from 10 months to 18 months...will he be ready for spring ball?

Put out a qualifying offer for Liriano, and I think he might take it. With his inconsistency, he may not get the big 3 year deal at his age. So taking a one year 12 million dollar deal may be his best bet.

I don't believe you will see Tallion anywhere near Pittsburgh this year.
You play to win the game!!!

Some are hopeful we will see Taillon in the second half of the season. He began his throwing program this week.

Martin and Liriano turned down their qualifying offers. No shock. But hearing 5 years 75-80 mill asking price forMartin depresses me. I'd pull trigger but Bucs won't, and it might not matter, sounds like cubs are willing to drop 5 years now. Where can you find cubbie gear?
