And if we went by your logic, why would good teams waste their non conference games playing BM when they should be playing good teams that would prepare them for the playoffs.

Thank you PL
My point exactly, If something isn't done with expectations, getting your players to understand picking up a basketball only from mid November till mid February is not acceptable their storied basketball history will be just that, history.

Bishop McCort just isn't very good this year, it's that simple. They weren't that good last year either, but having the best player in the area kept them competitive for the most part last season. As we saw in the LHAC Championship game last year, and by getting knocked off by Bald Eagle...McCort struggles with a press and ball pressure. They just don't really have any point guards in the school right now grades 9-12. The Price kids went through the parochial system their whole life, the older one played for McCort for two years before going to play with for their Dad at Johnstown. It is what it is, but that ultimatley left the McCort senior class and sophomore class without their true best point guards.

The junior class at McCort went 16-0 in freshmen basketball in LHAC play, but they weren't really tested because if you look back, Somerset, Richland, Westmont, and almost every school has started to call up their 3-4 best freshmen, so at the time it looked like this McCort class was good, but they weren't seeing the best competition.

McCort's best eighth grader should bypass freshmen ball next season, and will likely be the JV point guard. He's a good young player with a familiar last name - Seidel. McCort also pulled up their three best freshmen this year, and have the younger Trexler playing in ninth grade. They may see better days in the future.

Still as far as the schedule goes this year, nobody can say much for playing Altoona and Hollidaysburg. Playing the potential District 10 AA champ (Fairview) on a neutral court isn't a bad game. Bishop Walsh has long played teams in this region, and McCort has a home and home agreement with them that runs out next year I believe. Berlin was a questionable game, but they went 22-3 last year and they may even win D5 AA this year. It's not a team I would schedule, but for a team that wasn't expected to do much, Berlin made sense to have on the schedule had they won the game. Even so, in the past ten years McCort has played a tougher non-conference schedule than anyone in District Six minus the AAAA teams. Period.

McCort just doesn't have it this year, it's probably the worst team they have had since Al Grandenetti was the coach. So I don't see what the big deal with playing Berlin on a year like this, because it doesn't even matter; they aren't making the postseason.

Bishop Guilfoyle also looks down this year.

This leaves only one catholic atop the LHAC.

BG just seems to have a strange team. I'm not sure how much the football title has affected things or not but it seems they can't start the same five players from game to game. I know they had their two big kids out for the first 4-5 games due to injury and now Kitt has been out for several weeks with some kind of leg injury. I was at the game on Friday at CC and Chadbourn was on his official visit to Villanova and wasn't there. It just seems like they can't get any consistency. Add that to the fact thay they are playing 4 sophomores as either starters or the first subs off the bench and it has just been a weird year for the Marauders. I think eventually the sophomore class has a chance to be outstanding but right now they seem to make way to many mistakes (bad shots, turnovers, etc..) that young players make, especially given the schedule they are playing night in and night out. I'm not sure if they can improve enough in time to make any noise in the playoffs (with the schedule of games there isn't much practice time) but right now they are a team it seems in transition. I wouldn't completely count them out but time is certainly ticking away quickly for them to begin playing better before the playoffs.

Oohmy wrote:Sorry if I offended anyone, but when was the last AA team from the Weak Pac with the exception of CTHS two years ago go deep into the state playoffs. Here is the problem with scheduling a single A team from a conference that is mostly single A schools at home, how is this team going to get you prepared for the playoffs.
I guess my question would be what AA teams in the LHAC in the past couple years have made any noise in the playoffs. I would also go as far to say beside BC what team in the LHAC has really competed in the state tournament. I don't want to hear about winning 1 game in the playoffs before getting beat by 40 points either. I follow BC every year and without a doubt the LHAC is better than the Westpac but not by much. Just look how close the Portage vs BG football game was or how close Berlin played Clariton. Not a surprise Berlin beat BM and Shanksville almost beat Somerset.

Crimson Ghost,

Im already hearing rumblings about a complete make over at BM with football and basketball next year. Any truth to the rumors? Who could be the new coaches if you had a choice?

Murphy is the right guy for the basketball job, there's no question about that if you ask me. Al

Davitch is way out of his element and I would be in favor of him being removed today. I would like to see Tom Smith get the job, just not sure how realistic that is, but he would have them competitive quickly.

I don't know either of them personally but from what I'm hearing is Davitch is outdated and has trouble relating to the kids. I heard just from parents so you can't hold to much weight into these statements but Murphy has not put in the time in the off season that is needed compared to Hollern.

Jerry Murphy is a good coach, the talent is just not there at the moment. Things go in cycles and even though the talent level may not be there, I bet his kids play hard. Eventually, it will come back. Football at McCort has been DOA for a few years.
