There is no right or wrong answer. Attendance and TV ratings show that neither level of football is lacking fans. I've said on here before, I am not a fan of parity. IMO, the draft system is not fair. Why should the Oilers in hockey or Raiders in football get chance after chance after chance to pick at the top of the draft? Why should the Red Wings and Patriots be punished for being successful.

I've always thought this would be a more interesting system to have a lottery that decides all teams draft position. Then invert the following rounds. Think how much more fearful GMs will be of trading 1st round draft picks. They could be trading away a generational talent. What the Sabres did last year in hockey was not right. You can't tell me the Colts didn't know exactly what they were doing in their "efforts" to acquire Luck.

See if you don't let the drafts act the way they do you would never see a new team on top.

Just look at Congress and how hard it is to reflect congressmen even though they are heavily negatively rated. They have a huge advantage with congressional privileges so they keep staying on top

So our congressmen/congresswomen can become free agents and go sign with China or Greece? So our congressmen/congresswomen are in a profession where the prime of their careers is 2-4 years?

Horrible example.

The top teams have a distinct disadvantage in the NFL. That is why over the past 20 years only 2 or 3 teams have stayed consistently successful. If a team wins, their free agents usually are higher regarded thus more likely to sign elsewhere or handicap the team against the salary cap AND they get the lowest picks in each of the 7 rounds of the draft. Teams purposely lose to get better. There isn't a relegation system in U.S. Professional Sports so there is no incentive to win unless you can go deep into the playoffs. If every team in the NFL had a 3.125% chance of the #1 pick, then everyone is out to win all the time. Look at the 76ers, Sabres, Colts a few years ago, Penguins pre lockout, ect. You think that inverting the standings and drafting in that order creates PARITY? It actually has a reverse effect.

Think about the excitement and build up that a true lottery could create. Especially if a generational talent is coming through.

The good teams are good for a reason. Look in the NFL, the Steelers, Pats, Colts even the Cowboys are all run well and have great coaches and owners. That is why free agents want to go there also. In college its the same, you have really good coaches at great schools so they are the ones getting the top high school kids. The draft works as it is, the Browns are bad because they cant draft well and the owners wont stick with a coach long enough for him to build a team.
