When you lose by 18 points on your home floor. You CAN NOT use the refs as an excuse. Well I guess if the Twp ref in the Ridge - Windber game ripped off Ridge I guess that balances out the job Koppenhaver was trying to do for them. I am sorry to hurt your feelings southpaw but there are some pretty bad refs in Bedford county too.

If you think Bedford Cty is bad I guess you haven't been to Fulton County!

My beef is with having two refs from one county and only one from the other that's just asking for trouble. And another thing, having three officals is a bad idea too. Two good refs are plenty. Having three primadonnas out there trying to out do each other is ridiculous!

You would think that refs wouldn't see there job as "outdoing" each other?? The way you stated that it makes it sound like refs are working on commission, the more times they blow their whistle the more money they make. It seems that the biggest problem like you said southy, is having the 'mixed' bag of different county refs.
They may do this, I'm not sure, but do basketball refs have one guy/gal that is the head of the bunch, like the ref that wears the white hat in football?? If you mean outdoing as one ref trying to take control over a game from another, then maybe something like this would eliminate that.

Southpaw I agree with you 100% about the mixing and matching. Also agree with you about the Fulton County refs. I personally made that trip a few times to Fannett Medal and Forbes Road. Nothing against the schools but the officiating is can we say "interesting". I think one of the big problems that happens and I am not knocking the officials at all by saying this. I think sometimes "some" refs go into a game with an idea before it starts who will win. I went to the West Pac finals a few weeks ago because I never saw Shubik play and wanted to watch him. It was a great game when Shanksville got rolling but some of the calls in that game were obviously against Shanksville. Shubik traveled a few times no call. The new kid from Florida carries the ball every time he dribbles no call. Shanksville would go down the court and they would call that same call the other way. You know when some officials make a bad call because they will argue with the coach or the fans. You will be interested to know it was a 3 man crew in that game and two of them were at Everett last night. Subtract Koppenhaver and you have the crew. Do you people know in the regular season the home school picks the officials and not a committee. This is why you go to some schools and you see the same guys all the time. There are some schools that are good at spreading the refs out. Some groups may only officiate at a school 1 time. Go to Windber and see how many times you see that Twp person you were talking about earlier southpaw. I guarantee more than 1 time. It is called "home-cooking".

CT-Everett Game

Southpaw:
You seem to be wasting a lot of talent on the computer key board. Your expertise on officiating is remarkable. Do us all a favor, take the official's test, join your local chapter, and then every one can see how well you do as an official. It would be safe to guess that you would be no better or far worse than any official that you have criticized on your posts. Chances are, you wouldn't even pass the test. The empty wagon always makes the most noise.

Southpaw, I would pay extra money to watch that. ha ha You know what I think I would even sit with your dad to listen to him yell at you two. There is NO better at one liners for referees than your dad.

A COUPLE OF COMMENTS ABOUT THE OFFICIALS.

1. DURING THE PLAYOFFS ONE GUY SETS THE CREWS. HIS NAME IS RON BEACHLEY. HE TELLS THE CHAPTER LEADERS (KOPPENHAVER AND DONALDSON) AT BEDFORD AND FULTON COUNTIES WHICH GAMES THEY ARE TO COVER. THEY IN TURN SEND THE GUYS FROM THEIR CHAPTERS TO DO THE GAMES.

2. I AGREE WITH SOUTHPAW THAT THERE ARE 2 MANY SPLIT CREWS WITH 2 OF THE GUYS BEING FROM SOMERSET. CAN YOU EXPLAIN TO ME HOW EVERETT BEING THE HIGHER SEED AND HOSTING THE GAME AND STILL WERE SUBJECTED TO 2 SOMERSET GUYS. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN 2 BEDFORD AND 1 SOMERSET.

3. YOU DO NEED 3 OFFICIALS IN THE PLAYOFFS AND EVEN IN A LOT OF REGULAR SEASON GAMES. THE GAME IS COVERED BETTER WITH THE OTHER SET OF EYES. NOT AS MUCH IS MISSED.

4. I HAVE A QUESTION FOR HEAD ROADIE. DO YOU MEAN SOMERSET HAS MORE OFFICIALS THAN BEDFORD COUNTY OR THAT THEY HAD BETTER PLAYOFF OFFICIALS. I AGREE THEY HAVE MORE NUMBERS, BUT I DON'T THINK THAT MAKES THEM THE BETTER OFFICIALS. THERE ARE ENOUGH GOOD BEDFORD COUNTY OFFICIALS THAT COULD WORK THESE GAMES IF GIVEN A CHANCE. SEE HOW MANY OF THE 12 OFFICIALS THAT WORK AT UPJ ARE NON-SOMERSET GUYS.

Hey Southpaw,

Why don't you grow a set. If you think you are that good, PROVE IT. Go out and take your test, be the best ref out there. You will make all the right calls. You know everything. Let see if you are in it for the love of the game or for all the wrong reasons.

I think most of you commenting have lost sight of what southpaw was saying. He didn't even bust on the refs for making calls in particular, he was referring to having different county refs. doing the games. Like anything, if you and another person haven't worked together, you're not going to do good...and that goes for anything. And I agree with him, you should have the same guys that worked together all year continue to do the same throughout the playoffs, regardless of which county or chapter they are from.

And trackeb, what are 'all the wrong reasons?' Do you really think the refs out there are doing these games just to get the satisfaction of having authority over something, in this case a game?? Get real.
