Re: NHL Playoffs
Crimson, I think a lot of the reason why Vegas was predicted to finish so badly was due to the stigma of consistent failure by expansion teams. I mean Columbus is yet to win a playoff series.
But this team had everything you need to be very competitive in the current NHL. World class goalie, ability to roll 4 lines, cap flexibility, and most of all SPEED TO BURN.
I think with the current CBA agreement, a lot of franchises are in really bad situations. The Penguins have always had an advantage because they got the games best player at an $8.7 million cap hit. But for many other teams they got 2 or 3 players eating up nearly half of their cap space. In a game where your best player is only on the ice 18-20 minutes a game, it is hard to win like that.
I think if you give the 30 prior teams in the league the option to dump their entire roster and coaching staffs then let them have an expansion draft with the rules in place the same as Vegas, probably 15-20 teams would absolutely take that offer. It would get them out from under bad contracts, get them cap flexibility, and most of all allow them to design a roster around a single philosphy. Most teams over time and multiple GMs and coaches have players on the roster that absolutely don’t fit the current system they are trying to run. Vegas doesn’t have that.

I think vegas is ahead of schedule due to a lot od things. Smart GM, smart coach, great community and they had something everyone to play for.
It was horrible what happened in Las Vegas last year but that tragedy might of been a spark that was needed to get everyone on that org on the same page and connecting with the fans

Re: NHL Playoffs
Very much so. Also another year everyone should be reminded the Metro is the best division in the NHL.
Re: NHL Playoffs
Travesty averted.
Nice run for pro teams on extended championship droughts: Houston Astros, Philadelphia Eagles and now the Washington Capitals
