BG Canton
Re: BG Canton
I'm really hoping to see Hangman answer both of Youngbuck's questions.
Re: BG Canton
No matter the situation all private schools should be forced to play 6A. End of discussion. Being able to pull players from whatever district you want is an unfair advantage. I also know for a fact much of the BG talent was recruited. Go Redbank Valley!!!youngbuck wrote: December 5th, 2021, 2:44 pm With your argument, how are you going to explain Mccort and Carroll football this season. If you combine two private schools, they should be unbeatable right?
Which BG player didn't attend parochial grade school?
Re: BG Canton
Who came from a public school? You can't even answer a simple question.
I agree that BG has in the past had some transfers, but presently the entire team came through the catholic grade school system. So please tell me all about the recruiting.
And surprise, no answer for why Mccort and Carroll combined couldn't beat there way to even a little respect.

Bro, I can see you are online. Still waiting
Re: BG Canton
You appear to be very well-informed. Please enlighten us by describing this "recruiting" process. How does BG (and apparently all private schools) contact potential players and families? Which players on this team were recruited? What schools did they come from? Is their tuition being paid? How do families who have sacrificed to send their kids to these schools feel about fresh recruits taking starting jobs? How do they feel about the scholarship money going to outsiders?Hangman wrote: December 5th, 2021, 10:37 pmNo matter the situation all private schools should be forced to play 6A. End of discussion. And how is it that "6A" BG got their tails kicked by 2A and 3A schools earlier in the season and are now so unfairly good that they are unworthy of their classification?
Further, who are the stars on this team that give them the unfair advantage? Their QB has looked stellar in the playoffs, but he's a first year starter who was getting no protection earlier in the year. The whole team has developed.
There are readers who would like to enter the discussion armed with facts. Fill us in .
Re: BG Canton
Even though he did not play much this year due to injury Garner did not attend a parochial school until he transferred in to BG after his sophomore season of football at Southern Huntingdon. He would have had to sit out the baseball season that year because of this, but that was the Spring of 2020.
The BG coaches do not actively recruit kids off of other schools' rosters that I have seen (and I have seen them have the opportunity to do so), but they also do not tell them to stay where they are either. At this point with the success and track record that BG has had a kid who is on a mid-level roster who wants to achieve more than just being on a mid-level school (championships and college opportunities) choose to seek out a program that can offer these things to them. The fact of the matter is that BG's success does all the recruiting they need it to do.
There are also most likely a bunch of players playing this weekend on every team that were not attending the school they are playing for now as freshmen. Southern Columbia for example does not have all homegrown athletes playing for their "public" school, some of their starters were not in Catawissa as ninth graders, and probably even more were not there in elementary school. I don't know what big industry is calling parents to move to that town but they seem to have a bunch of new mailboxes every five or six years.

Re: BG Canton
Success certainly breeds where families may move or locate to, but in the case of private schools you don't have to move. 6A is excessive, I've often said they should all be up at least one class at a minimum. I don't think anyone is arguing it doesn't happen at public schools, it certainly does. It's just easier to do it in the private system. Playing up one class should be more than fair. As far as publics doing it, I'm not sure what you can do. Certainly this new Vo-tech rule doesn't help that either, I suspect foul play with it. I'm still not certain as to how SC hasn't been hit with the success factor. They're appeared in the last 6 AA championships going 5 of 6, yet find a way to remain...

Re: BG Canton
they have more than just Garner who did not play/come up through the parochial system. They had 3 listed on their roster last year that are transfers and 3 different ones this year. Maybe they are not all impact players, but at least a few of them are recognizable.
Re: BG Canton
The 3 new names on their roster you speak of were natural break transfers, which mean they transferred after 8 th grade prior to 9th

Lol, “natural transfers.”Awdhaemel wrote: December 6th, 2021, 10:47 pm The 3 new names on their roster you speak of were natural break transfers, which mean they transferred after 8 th grade prior to 9th
