3rd Debate
Re: 3rd Debate
This is coming from a use to be Bush supporter. I think that Kerry has quite a few more good ideas than Bush, but there are a few things I would worry about if Kerry would get elected. I would hope he wouldn't pass a gay marriage amendment and, how much of a look would he give to homeland security. It has surely been a lot safer with it in place here in America.

Re: 3rd Debate
He'd let the UN determine what to do with our national security. And, from his own mouth at the his nomination acceptance speech, he'd retaliate if we are ever attacked again, instead of taking out a threat BEFORE we're attacked.
And then there was this "thing" about a global test......

Re: 3rd Debate
Kerry has stated he is against gay marriage. He has also stated that we must find and kill the terrorists where they are. He has no plans to pull us out of Iraq without finishing what has been started.
Unfortunately I do not believe we will ever be as safe as we once were. The fight is on with the terrorists. They will attack again. They have shown they are a patient group and will plan an attack out years in advance. It does not matter who is president, they cannot guarantee our safety.

Re: 3rd Debate
And I agree with that once a runner but, the question is that if Kerry can make us safer than what Bush can. I also think that Bush needs to do something about out sourcing jobs and the deficit.

Re: 3rd Debate
Runner - I sure thought you or flea were going to tear into sportsguy since he doesn't support your view of gay marriage.
Anyway, you say he's against gay marriage. In an interview with The Advocate (a gay publication), here's his response to a question:
Advocate: Would you ever change your mind regarding same-sex marriage?
Kerry: I have my view, and my view is my view. I can’t tell you in 20 years or whenever, if someone made a persuasive argument, the world changes. You know, George Bush just changed his mind on a national security director, and he changed his mind on raiding Social Security, and he changed his mind on homeland security. So I don’t predict the future. What I tell you is that my position is what it is.
That sure sounded a resolute no to gay marriage to me  . A simple, emphatic No would've worked.

Sportsguy - can you name any of Kerry's good ideas that are better than President Bush's?

Re: 3rd Debate
Did you ever hear of the Pay as you Go, well Bush did away with it and now look at the deficit. And I hate the thought of gay marriage. Sorry if I ruffled any feathers.

Re: 3rd Debate
LP, what is my view of gay marriage? I don't believe I've ever revealed that on this board. Or are you making another assumption because I take the liberal view most of the time?
Here is what Kerry said in the 3rd debate...
I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. But I also believe because we're the USA, we're a country with a great, unbelievable Constitution, with rights that we afford people, that you can't discriminate in the rights that you afford people. You can't disallow someone the right to visit their partner in a hospital. You have to allow people to transfer property, which is why I'm for partnership rights. With respect to DOMA & the marriage laws, the states have always been able to manage those laws
A couple of plans I like of Kerry's more than Bush.... Incentives for companies to keep jobs in the USA and not to outsource them.....raising the minimum wage....keeping the ban on assault weapons.... not privatizing social security. I realize those are all matter of opinions, but those are some of the reasons I favor Kerry over Bush.

Re: 3rd Debate
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but the newer assault rifle ban has no use period. It was just a misguided bill period. Actual Assault rifles have been banned since the days of the Tommy Gun.

Re: 3rd Debate
Good post LP about Kerry who can't give a straight answer. "My view is my view is my view etc." Boy, would he be a good used car salesman or an Amway rep. Kind of reminds me of the "snake oil salesman from the 'Outlaw Josey Wales'.
Kerry will pass the buck on SS, it'll go broke if we don't do someting drastic. Weapons ban won't get through Congress. To keep from outsourcing jobs he'll raise tariffs and that never works. He basically has nothing original just the same old liberal policies.

I didn't ask you what you disliked about President Bush. You mentioned that Kerry has better ideas. I asked you what they were.
BTW - I'm with you on the gay marriage. I see you're new to the board and probably haven't read through everything yet.
Runner - I was pretty sure you voiced your opinion on that a while back. If not, I apologize. I wasn't assuming that because you're liberal, I stated that because I thought that was your position. Now that I think about it, it was probably the other runner on the board.
