I figure its time I weigh in on this debate.
1. Bedrock isn't a your typical "Bedford Rules the Universe" person. I've known him a long time and is capable of being thoughtful and analytical debate.
2. Lefteye is the poster boy for "Beford Rules the Universe" cause. He is not to be belived because he only sees thing in Blue and White. lol
3. Wildcat said that to one needed to have more skill to play soccer than to play football. I totally disagree, all sports require skill. However I can't see that running around kicking a ball requires more skill than all of the techniques, plays, drills, formations, etc. of football. Besides all of those things are coordinated into an 11 man effort for success on the football field.
4. Finally, there are pros and cons to each position on this issue. I think their are more pros than cons. I for one favor youth football leagues with tackle as early as 1st grade.

I heard that Ridge may eliminate the whole flag program and just go with tackle for all the age groups. I hope so - it's just a little late for my boys.
Lefteye - I believe it was Southpaw that put everyone straight on that call at Bellwood. He's been around the game long enough to know that calls (good and bad) go both ways throughout the course of a game. Sometimes it seems one team gets more than others, but I don't think anyone out there thinks there's a conspiracy against Ridge.

Forest Hills has the best spread for officals bar none. They really grease them up good in Sidman. Morris' and JoJo's baby!
Left-eye: Bellwood has had youth football for probably 30 years and had benefited them well. You know that I'm as clear on the Ridge/Bedford situation as my 20/10 vision is.

I am not saying I am totally against youth football! I just think that there can be alot of negatives involved also. I've seen it for years in wrestling by overbearing parents that want to coach there kid and end up making them hate the sport. I think if you impliment youth football it needs to be overseen by jr. high or varsity coaches. I am not saying these guys have the time to coach it themselves but they need to impliment rules and the coaching staffs. This would help to get the right people in there.
I will give you credit southpaw, you are as educated on the situation as anyone from CR. Don't think its as clear as your 20/10 vision though.

When the Little Lions Program was first organized a lot of your recomendations were put in play.
1. An organized coaches clinic ran by the Varsity Coach.
2. Some even travelled to PSU to sit in on the Spring Clinics.
3. Fun and Training were empesized over winning and empire building.
4. It was tied in tight with the Varsity program by utilizing as many of the coaches from the HS program as possible. Many would attend the games on saturday to oversee and mingle with the parents.
Not sure what is being done today.

A key influencer in getting the Little Lions off the ground was Coach Walters. He was there with us each step of the way.
We also tried to model our program after the Richland Youth League. Which we felt had a good long term history of success. A lot of the kids who play up on the mountain went through them.
A couple other names of individuals that gave a lot of support were George Sciranko(spelling) and Bob Sweet.
There is a picture in the Trophy Case at CR High School. It was taken in front of the Press Box in the stands, every football player, cheerleader, coach and advisor are in that picture. It is something to see. I forget the exact number anymore but it was quite a crowd.

I think that youth football could be a really positive thing if it were run correctly. However, it will never be run correctly. All you will ever have in youth tackle football is a bunch of proud fathers reliving their highschool career through thier children. I've attended a couple of games and that is what I saw. By the way, I was a senior at Everett High School the first year they started the youth football program. The captains of the football team(which included myself) were asked to go down the first practice and show them how to make a form tackle. I saw 50 or more youth children timid to stick thier nose in someone's chest. The NFL has maturity rules that prohibits people too enter the NFL when they are too immature. I definately feel that 10 and 11 year olds are definately too immature to play tackle football.
