why big ben choked
Re: why big ben choked
Joe Montana, Dan Marino, Joe Namath, Tom Brady, Johnny Unitas, Phil Simms, John Elway. Many more I am not mentioning. Someone already posted no rookie QB has lead team to superbowl so I dont think this young man choked. This is the same young man who lead his team to 15 strait wins. Other great QB's did not have the season that Ben had. WIthout his play I think steelers make playoffs but not 16-2 final record. His play was solid all season and I look forward to watching him lead steelers to many more playoff games.

there are some QBs that can only dream of taking an NFL team 15 games without a loss... and some of the best haven't accomplished that. Has Manning? Vick? McNabb? if so congrats...i didn't look up the stats, but Big Ben has done things no one thought he'd do.

Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.

I agree with you on that, Ham. I don't see anyone ever breaking that record unless they get on a team that is totally stacked. Even then, it could be untouchable. However, that record doesn't mean near as much now that the Steelers season is over. I think the funniest part about this whole thing is I hear people saying how they should've brought Tommy Maddox in. How can you take out the quarterback that has led you that far?

Why is it impossible for anyone to break that record? Before 2004 you would have said the same thing about the old record. Someone will break it, someone will go undefeated in 16 games as a rookie sooner or later. And it'll be some relative no namer like Ben or Brady was.

I will be very surprised if anybody breaks the 14-0 starting record for a rookie quarterback. One went 6-0 and the record stood for over 20 years.
1. Rookies very rarely have the opportunity to play that many games in one season let alone win with the effiency of Big Ben.
2. Usually rookie quarterbacks who are drafted and supposed to be outstanding will go to terrible teams and if they do give them the opportunity to play, the team will have nothing around them but the good quarterback.
This is the one rare occasion that a good rookie went to a team who had one down year and could pick up a guy of this calibur. Then to have the starter go down in week 2 and allow him the obvious playing time right away RARELY happens, and if it does, the team will likely not ralley around the guy like the Steelers did this year. I remember thinking this year when everybody started saying that he might break the record that 7-0 was so far away and so hard to accomplish, 14-0 will never fall. This record is 10 times as untouchable as everyone once thought Marino's record was. I will do flips in my grave if any body ever breaks this record...

The book says play for the tie, and if you lose in OT it's bad luck.
But play for the victory in regulation and lose? You're a bad coach
