Re: 4 Players from LHAC make PA top 50!
Answering a question that was asked previously about how they test football speed....In a combine players do not only run a 40 time but they also run a shuttle run...Since the new SPARQ point system came out players are now given numerical scores for each event...and there is more stress on the 40 than the shuttle but lets be honest to get a good SPARQ score you need to run impressively in both...usually teams don't offer scholarships until you go to their camp or they see you in some one on one drills but if you do have a good 40 time which Kanuch does and a good shuttle time...i am not sure what he has in the shuttle..most teams will offer you...alot of times at combines schools will give you information on their camps so you can attend in hopes of getting a scholarship...but don't think the 40 is the only test for speed...as i said before...they have the shuttle and you must be agile and laterally quick to do well in it...

Well said...but since Kanuch has such good speed what is to say he won't play a position such as a kick returner?

Yeah but according to his times he is one of the fastest kids out there...I heard he ran a 4.2...not to many high school kids run that...and with his height wouldn't he be more a slot receiver anyways?...is he agile and quick? because i haven't seen him play

I may be wrong, but I believe Mr Kanuch was digitaly timed at 4.26.

What school does he go to? Plus running a 4.2 40 doesn't mean he is a 4.2 on the football field either, many of those out there, that is what track is for, no contact, just run run run! I would like to see him play sometime!

You gotta remember, d-1 schools look for the 2 things they can't coach or change. ..ie. speed and size; talent alot of times takes a backseast to the first 2. A prime example is Dale Williams out of Erie Prep in 99. the kid was 6'6- 310, but yet could barely bench 1/2 his own weight, he got pushed around by just about everyone at the East/West game, yet had offers from dozens of D-1 schools. You can't coach genetics. That's why you'll see mr Kanuch more of a prize recruit than several players many may think to be better. The boy is one tremendous athlete!

With all due respect guys, there are tons of what if's out there. Projections are what they claim to be. What if he gets hurt?, etc. Or the big one, What if he doesn't pick football? Sure, it runs in his family, but he basically said it himself that he wasn't going to allow his brother's choices affect him in to where he goes, or for that matter his uncle's occupation. Does that statement leave the door open for a possible college track career?
Let’s face it; this kid has a chance to win four gold medals at Shippensburg next week. 4!. You keep saying he has speed but it's clear that most of you can't come to a decisive answer as to what type it is; track or football. Either way he's fast. And any way you look at it, next week will be a testament to his athletic prowess. Football schools won't be the only one's coming to Westmont.
Don't take this to heart guys, football seems like the most logical pick of the lot, but from what I've seen and read, Kanuch seems like he goes against the grain of somebody with his caliber of talent, which translates into a different way of thinking and acting. And in the end it's up to the kid. He'll do what he thinks is the best possible future for him. Gridiron or not.
