TM - 69 Ridge- 66
One of the best games I've seen in a while. Hard fought game by both teams.

Re: Could This Be the Year?
Too bad the officiating was so poor. It was a fun game though. My first game in 13 years, I was glad to see Coach Bailey still has the fire!
The first thing I'll say is Donaldson is one hell of a player who is fearless.
Both teams played very hard in a well-coached game. Tussey Mountain is very quick. Despite not having much height at all their players really take it to the hole. Ridge got behind, especially at the beginning of the second half, but they came back. If they had gotten a few calls the game might have gone differently. A failure to check out the shooter twice on fouls really killed the Lions.
The officiating was very uneven. It's a good example why sometimes more is not better. Two of the officials were okay, but one was very shaky and brought the others down.
It seemed like TM went to the line a heck of a lot more than Ridge.
And I still don't understand the phantom point that was added during halftime.

Re: Could This Be the Year?
The "phantom point"- In the 2nd quarter Hoover scored on a drive to the basket and was fouled. He made the foul shot but it was never put on the score board. At halftime both books had 34 points for TM but the scoreboard only showed 33. The correction was made.
The Ridge score keeper was shakey all night. In the JV game, TM hit a 3 but was only credited for 2. Coach Husick had to take a time out to get the correction.
In the varsity game, Donaldson was on the foul line, with the ball ready to shoot and this clown blows the horn. Donaldson shot and missed and play continued. Why did the horn blow?
With 5 seconds left in the game, TM inbounds the ball, Donaldson takes 2 dribbles and was fouled. Guess what, there's still 5 seconds left in the game. Maybe Ridge should invest in a clock that shows tenths of seconds. Your middle school even has a clock that shows tenths. Maybe some of the 11 million dollars spent at the middle school should've went for a new clock at the high school.
I think TM went to the line more than Ridge because they were taking the ball to the basket and Ridge was fouling.

Talk about a sore winner...
The clock guy was shakey, I agree. Still, STILL, had Coach Bailey come out after halftime and found that the opposing team suddenly had another point he would have gone ballistic. We're talking brain aneurysm. Right or wrong.
Players do what the refs allow them to do, but one reason the TM players got to the basket was the use of the battering ram off hand, pushing a path through the paint. The officials let them get away with that all night.
I'm pretty sure Donaldson did not take two dribbles on the inbounds. (With his speed the Ridge player would have never caught him to foul!) Granted, a second should have expired though...
As if in 40 years of going down to Saxton for bb games either as a player, a coach, or a spectator, I've never seen the clockkeeper hose us. Incidentally, I mentioned this same subject to an old TM coach a few years ago and he smiled and said, "Home court advantage." I'll say the same thing, though I guarantee you any mistake made was not intentional.
The high school renovation will probably begin next year. I'm sure we'll get a new clock. I'll send you my property tax increase notice to verify it.
By the way, Ridge was playing without their point guard. Might not have made a difference, but then again maybe it would have. Of course I realize that a bunch of TM players have been sick lately. Still, with our pg in, Way could have spent less time handling the ball and more time around the basket. Breaks of the game, though. Still, I always like to see both teams in any game play full strength.
Just in case you haven't figured it out, I'm probably the biggest TM fan who doesn't hail from there. I love watching you guys play. When you play TM, you either fold up like a suitcase or increase your intensity to match theirs. I was proud of the way Ridge stepped it up. It was one of the hardest played games in that gym in ages. I've never seen a game where more players were diving full length on the floor for the ball and leaving significant quantities of epidermis on the hardwood.

Re: Could This Be the Year?
No sore winner here. Just answering your question about the phantom point. Should you go by the score books (both had TM with 34) or the score board? It's a correctible error and the correction was made.
I did have a problem with the guy on the clock. Why did the horn sound when Donaldson was ready to shoot his free throw? Not whining just looking for an answer.
As I said in an earlier post it was one of the best games I've seen in a while.

Oh the memories......My favorite is when Randy Zimmerman took a rebound with :03 left under the NB basket after a missed free throw and after being forced to the sideline at halfcourt (where everyone felt the buzzer should have rang) took two more dribbles for the layup and one point Tussey win in 1980!
Correctible error or not, aren't the officials supposed to make sure everything agees before they go to the locker room at the half? That way Coach Criswell would have known about the extra point before he returned to the floor. No coach likes surprises like that.
