Excellent point by abpk. And HardcoreFan.
I can go either way with MSU and Akron being equal. Michigan State is either going to win the Big Ten or else not even be bowl eligible. I'm really surprised in John L. Smith. Here's a guy who did an excellent job in his previous spot at Louisville, laid all that groundwork and Petrino got the credit for it, and then at MSU he is largely unable to keep that team focused. I can almost guarantee you though that they'll win 5-6 games straight out of the box, regardless of who they play. Very strange up there. It reminds me of when Gary Crowden left LA Tech for BYU.
Notre Dame in Ireland? Who are they gonna play, Army? Sheesh.
Good point about Willingham being a lazy recruiter. Even though ND did have good classes, this year's Washington class is seriously abyssmal. Any time you see a team get a high profile coach, the recruiting spikes. That has definitely not happened in Seattle, and I'm surprised because I think Willingham can be a good coach. Pac-10 is a good fit for him, though, because that conference is very top heavy and there's all kinds of room to move up.

Responding to ak47 8675309,
I mean the nitwit mindset is beautiful(backing up TAEs put down of NDs schedule by noting USC could be sanctioned over Bush "crib" issue) If NDs 07 included USC, FLA, Miami, Penn St., Georgia, Fla St, OK, New Eng, Ind, & the Steelers you would find a worst case scenario/impending programmatic doom slight of all those squads; excluding of course the Nitwits....C'mon USC nearly wins 3 straight Natl. Titles but they may be a cupcake next year! Makes me note, the only other team not ripped by PSU fans in this thread (in addition to the top 10 Zips, of course) would be Temple. Reasoning here is "we play them 16 times in the next 15 years"..
don't laugh at what appears to be a math error; I think you gave them a home n' home together in one year!!
Lets compare '06 OCC schedule:
Akron=Michigan State
Notre Dame=Notre Dame
Youngstown State>The Citadel
Temple<Virginia
That's pretty much even and Penn State should have an easier OOC schedule due to their tough conference schedule.
More humor, Temple on par with Va...Akron as good as Mich St., right
there is no comparison. After your nd series no legit ooc opponent till Bama back on in 2010, I believe...Should we list them?? I promised myself I wouldn't go back there...but this mentality needs jackhammering therapy. Prior to that Bama contest, like 4 yrs down the road, here are your ooc games: Fla Int, Temple, Youngstown, Akron, Temple, C. Mich, E. Mich, Temple Kent St., UCF, Temple, La Tech, Syr., Temple & Rockwood
And you have USC in the junk heap??
But of course you receive an A in pretzel logic from TAE! Along with being a cop, waiter and forrest ranger they must have philosophy majors taking these existential pretzel logic courses!

Now TAE, very recently I tried explaining to you what a poor job Ty did @ ND esp. in the recruiting arena! An inordinate # of his boys quit or transfered in the last year! Now he's a "lazy recruiter".

Re: Notre Dame for President.
Just because he is lazy doesnt mean he's horrible, though. ND still got good classes. They may not have been top 5 classes, but they were always good with him AND Davie. They had some excellent players go through during those tenures, v-man.
Could you possibly take more oput of context. Nobody said USC would be a cupcake next year, and I never mentioned the Bush situation. All I said was that there was just as much potential for them to have a downcycle as there is for Stanford or Illinois or somebody to win the national championship. It is common sense that teams are cyclical. Name me a team that hasn't been. He brought up OU. Look at Miami. Penn State had down years, Pitt, Nebraska, FSU, UCLA, even Notre Dame. This is common sense, v-man. And he brought up an excellent point about Alabama.
I will always defend Temple because they are in-state team that isn't Pittsburgh. I think Temple is doing the right thing with their football program, by hiring a new coach, putting those kids through a hard season, and moving into the MAC. They are trying to change their luck, and I dunno why you gotta dog on teams for that. It would be a different story if they had the same coach for 25 years and he went 1-10 every season. They're looking for the right guy. USC was bad before Carroll, FSU was bad before Bowden, etc, etc. At least they are trying to fix things. As a fan, that's all you can ask for.

Did you know... that the College Football Hall of Fame recognizes Pitt as having won THREE national championships?
Re: Notre Dame for President.
Where does the reasoning come from that says because Penn State plays in the Big Ten, that they DESERVE to play a wimpy non-conference schedule??? This isn't a play to win schedule. It's a play not to lose schedule. PSU will take on the Akron's of the world so they won't lose. And that's how they'll practice, not to lose. And that will be their mindset for those games, not to lose. While Ohio State is practicing TO BEAT teams like Texas, PSU is practicing NOT TO LOSE to Akron. And that's the difference in mindset between the schools. That's probably why OSU was ranked higher than PSU by Sagarin. The challenge of the non-conference schedule.

You're right. PSU will be practicing not to lose to Notre Dame, instead of to beat them, THE SAME WEEK OSU prepares for Texas. Who does Ohio State play in that week before the PSU OSU game? Why none other than Big Least juggernaut Cincinnati. And the week before the Texas game? None other than Northern Illinois. Add Bowling Green to that OOC schedule and you're on par with the Nittany Lions. Why don't you spend some time ripping on them for a little?

Re: Notre Dame for President.
Guess you just proved that the Big Ten teams do indeed play weak out-of-conference schedules. No wonder they get so many bowl invites. When you have to win only 6 games (which PSU failed to do for several years prior to last season), all you got to do is load up with weaklings and you got 3 or 4 wins right off the bat. I'll have to check out ALL the Big Ten schedules to see how they look. Then maybe I'll take up your offer and talk about all Big Ten schools. Of course, THEY DESERVE A WEAK NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE BECAUSE THEIR REGULAR SEASON SCHEDULE IS SO TOUGH.

Check SEC out of conference schedules while your at it, and also Big East Champion for the last three (and next thirty years) WVU also.
Take four or five months and get back to us.

Re: Notre Dame for President.
Gee. You must have already checked out the SEC. Why don't you give us a recap?
