Re: One Of The Biggest Jerks I've Ever Heard
I grant you that McCort is a wonderful school where most people get a great education and have the opportunity to compete in quality sports programs. I have absolutely no problem with anyone going there if they can better themselves. Most of the BM people I have encountered are positive role models and carry themselves with dignity.
However, that still doesn't mean that private schools and public schools play by the same rules. I'll also grant you that BM is not breaking any rules. That doesn't mean the rules are fair. The PIAA under their current leadership will never tackle the fairness issue as other states have done. It's not that most people hate McCort or BC or any other private institution, they likely resent that they have a different set of rules to play by. We've all been in situations where we felt the playing field was not level and when that happens resentment grows.
I will argue your point that BM is made up of "average" kids. I'm sure the school has standards and they just don't let anyone enroll. I doubt they enroll too many students who are getting D's and F's and probably even C's for that matter. Their student body is certainly above average from the start. I will also argue your point about coaching salaries. Coaches at public schools may make more than the coaches at BM, but both jobs pay low enough where nobody does it for the money. My guess is that most public school coaches would gladly accept a pay cut if they could coach under the same circumstances as a private school coach.

They were caught recruiting, but they just got a slap on the wrist. In order for private schools to stop recruiting the PIAA needs to strengthen the rules on recruiting.

Re: One Of The Biggest Jerks I've Ever Heard
Hadn't been to a football game between single A opponents for quite a while, so I ended up at Point Stadium Friday night to watch BM host BA. As I watched the crowd usher in, I thought of the recent post under this topic by BMFootball. It went something like, "McCort is one big family. How McCort people all stick together. How McCort is such a special place". So as I watched BA warm up, I wondered if BA had similar feelings abut their school district.
As I watched the BA players, I thought about how these kids all grew up within a short distance of each other. How many of them had known each other since their early grade school days. How maybe they played football on the playground at school when they were little, then going on to pee wee ball before showing up for try-outs in junior high. This became the group that was about to play for the possibility of winning their district's championship.
After the game started, it was soon BA's turn to go on offense for the first time. I can imagine how the BA quarterback felt when he looked across the line of scrimmage for the first time. Looking over his center, there stood a kid from Westmont. Could that be true? I mean didn't that kid play for Westmont last year as a 10th grader? And then on the other side, there was a kid from Laurel Valley playing too. How could this be? That's 2 out of 11 starters on BM's defense staring right at him. That's over 1/6 of the opponent's defense which showed up to play for BM. Is this possible? Is this fair? After all, the BA quarterback was playing with the same guys every year since junior high. Doesn't McCort do the same thing? I mean do they let strangers come in and play for them without consequences or penalties? Isn't that some sort of unfair advantage?
Well, the team from BA played their hearts out, but could just not pull out the victory. The hometown boys just couldn't do it. All night long they heard the names of the two kids from Westmont and Laurel Valley as they made tackle after tackle. The McCort fans hooted and hollered after each one made a play for their Crushers. They didn't care about how their team was put together. It was more important for their team to win. And as the BA seniors left the playing field, they wondered how the game would have gone if the field had been level.

I have to say thank you to me ..." for not being stupid enough to go to Penn State."
Re: One Of The Biggest Jerks I've Ever Heard
Nice defense mechanism, vman. Hard to reply to what was just posted, wasn't it? The problem with McCort is not so much that they bend the rules, but it's that McCort people think that what BM is doing is acceptable. That's it's normal to take advantage of other teams from an athletic standpoint.
Re: One Of The Biggest Jerks I've Ever Heard
It seems like a very close game. I think Portage will have some extra steam behind them. They have been written off in this game by alot of people for playing weak teams. In the end I think this momentum will carry them to the D6 title.

Congrats Vman, the all mighty Crushers are in the A championship, the chips were stacked against them, but somehow they worked hard, got transfers to come from all over creation, and here they are ready to beat one of the smallest schools in the district! What an amazing amazing achomplishment!
