I am a big Township fan, obviously, and Ill give windber a good bit of credit here...
in a response to someone's post...week 2 was not a fluke...CT is a good team and played well in week one..they shut down their run and their passing game and was able to win
Windber changed everything, though, after getting reamed by portage and since then they have been unstoppable. I give erickson a ton of credit...i dont care if you run the ball 100 times..when you put up those numbers and 5 FIVE!! touchdowns..you are definitely doing something right. CT was able to figure out their run game by halftime, easily...but their coordinator was unable to figure out a way to stop them..he thre about 30 different looks at them defensively and could DO nothing to stop erickson's speed and agility.
You still have to give CT's secondary some credit...despite a broken coverage by Zambanini for a 25 yard pass and an obvious huge mistake by Jones and Zambanini on the flea-flicker for a touchdown, CT's defense was able to shut down Windber's passing game for the most part. Windber even got greedy on 4th and 3 from the CT 18 yard line and got picked off and run back for like 75 yards
Windber's defense completely sucked vs the pass and the run outside in the 2nd half giving up play after play to QB Matt Duray and a 1st down run of 70 yards to Jarod Nanna in the 4th quarter...but CTs defense was so tired having been on the field for most of the game that Windber was able to double them up in the last few minutes
The score definitely didnt show how competitive the game was in the 2nd and 3rq quarters....it was 28-21 in the 4th before windber made it 35-21 and 42-21 on back to back quick drives. Had CT been able to make something of their 1st drive of the game and had their defense been able to keep their offense on the field for longer by stopping the run...the outcome would have been a lot different. But CTs weakness all year was stopping the run and giving up huge games against Portage, NS, and Windber...
Give Windber credit though...they are playing like they are Hungry
Still, though...i dont think its possible for Windber's D to shut down a high-octane split pass/run offense from District 7
Kudos to Windber though, great win
I have to admit...i was hoping CT would win the D5 title..but its nice to have the bulk of basketball players at practice this week getting ready for what looks to be a really competitive WestPAC season
