I'm not offended one bit. Some of hollidaysburgs sports programs are a joke. (wrestling, baseball) Rossi only cares about football and basketball so they get the funds. Those 2 sports are pretty decent most years. Hollidaysburgs enrollment just barely makes quad A but some of the sports would hardly compete in single A.

I certainly agree that Bedford has set themselves apart in athletics in the county. And while enrollment might play a very minor roll, I don't think it is the reason for the domination. I am curious, however, what has made them dominate over such a long period of time? Is it a particular emphasis on sports? Did they start their winning tradition early and just have momentum after that?

I know when I was an athlete at Bedford we would always look forward to the county match ups. We always knew that a county team would want to beat us so much more then one of the average LHAC teams. Instead of whining about how big of a deal it is if a county school beats Bedford... I take it as a compliment. If a school/team's only goal of the season is to beat you then obviously you are doing something right. I don't know if that makes sense or not... but whatever.

actually that makes perfect sense the1&only its pretty much what i was trying to say, just the "politically correct" of saying it i guess. but i know what u mean about the county games always being big, the other schools always step it up when they play bedford, and no matter how crappy of a season theyre having, they give bedford a run for their money.
and 4him i really dont know what makes bedford athletics so good i guess its just that we have a great tradition built and noone wants to be remembered as "the losers" or the guys that broke the tradition...thats my guess at least

gunner as ridge grad i totally agree with you bedford was alway our biggest match ( and falure) i could not wait to wrestle them they set the standard that we wanted to achive but you still have to give the current ridge team some credit they have a great jr high team and solid varsity line-up that is young.

i definetly give the ridge boys credit, they have a great team and from the looks of it will continue for quite a few years. but a few good seasons doesnt make for a great program. i guess the best example is Penn State football...they had a dismal season, but u offer PSU to just about any high school ball player and they will jump at it...because the tradition is there and the progam has been well established.

First of all this is directed at Gunner not others at Bedford. Your arrogant attitude is exactly why at districts when a Bedford kid gets thrown on his back everyone in the gym goes wild with approval (except the bison fan)

southpaw, please read my apology that i posted as a new topic in this forum. let me just say that i know for a fact that ridge has a better wrestling team than bedford this year, theres no way around it. and the other county schools are better than bedford in other sports as well. this topic was created strictly to stir conversation...which it has. im not trying to be arrogant here, and please dont think that i am. im just pointing out certain facts thats all. in no way am i trying to take credit away from the other schools in the county. and everything i say is strictly my views, and does not represent the bedford area school district in any way, shape, or form.

there are skinnier kids than andrew stiffler in Ethiopia. What do sports matter. I go to school not to think about athletics but just for the pure excitement of the knowledge i'm going to gain and the adventure in learning i'm about to experience. Nothing can get me out of bed in the morning like the feeling of putting on my "thinking cap" and laying the foundation for a successful future.
