Mike Trout is the best position player. Andrew McCutchen is number two. It's that simple.

So, your saying Kershaw would performed better then 0 for 3 and a strikeout at the plate in a must win game?

Kershaw is best pitcher in baseball, and better than any in recent memory . I'd take cutch all day every day for same reason he doesn't deserve MVP . HE PLAYS 33-35 GAMES A YEAR!!!
His w/l is dependent on teammates. Cutches numbers speak volumes to having no help in 4 hole but yet still hit over 310 and 20 hr and top obp. To go further,JHays great season is in part thanks to hitting in front of Cutch at 1/2 most of year. Kershaw is great! But no pitcher is MVP !

McCutchen-Kershaw debate is valid. It could go either way. I get why people think Kershaw will get the MVP, and I'll understand when he does win. I don't think pitchers should be eligible for the award, but since they are, Kershaw certainly will be in the top 3.

Konjo's argument is that McCutchen isn't that good, and that is borderline insane and just about less than .01% of people that follow baseball would agree with that. There are 4-5 elite offensive players in baseball and McCutchen is among them. He's won an MVP with a season before and a season after in which he put up better numbers. Cutch 2012-2014 is the best player in the National League, and he will stay in the top 2-3 debate for a few more years.

There are far smarter people than anyone on this board that know he is the best position player in the NL. Look up and down the four teams left and try to name one position player that is better. You can't.

You can't call the reigning MVP a "B player" and sound like you know what you are talking about after that. I'm sorry.

i can and i will... The "Elite" offensive player struck out more than he got hit in a must win playoff game at home... BA of .000.... The whole pirates offense is a fluke. They do could against average pitching but against good pitchers they have always get shut down.

the pirates had a losing record against all the playoff teams this year... They consitently had trouble with #1 pitchers on other teams. Their team is built around succeeding vs 3-5 pitchers, which is great because it gives you a shot at the post season, but when post season comes they'll lose ever time.

You can call me whatever you want but you can't tell that one of the best offensive teams out there is pittsburgh when they only got 4 hits at home in a must win game... Not to mention some of the dumbest baseball things i've seen! Like Bunting Russel Martin, the clean up hitter, with 1 on and 1 out in an inning? Down 4 runs?

In Konjo's world to be an "A" player you have to hit over .500 and not have an 0-for game all year. Anything can happen in one game of baseball. Believe it or not Kershaw gave up 7 runs in 1 2/3 innings in a start this year! Does that make him any less of a player? No way. As far as the Pirates offense goes this is where they stood in the MLB this year. They finished third in the majors in on-base percentage (.330), fifth in batting average (.259), seventh in slugging (.404) and 10th in runs (682). I'm not sure why I'm even bothering to comment though because it's obvious he knows nothing about baseball.

This was a must win game.... The other games to this point are only small arguing points. They were at home with a "top offense" and one of their aces. They got 4 hits all game. 4!!!!!! An "A" player shows up in these games.... B players are just regular season stats.

Konjo, you have really showed your baseball ignorance in your posts. The did NOT have a losing record against every playoff team this season. They beat SF 4 out of 6 times which is a WINNING record.
