Classification of Private Schools
Re: Classification of Private Schools
PerryChicker, I stated before the school choice movement is a completely separate issue. You have problems with that then you have a problem with the government.
DCor50 as I stated before, stop looking at just your region or area of the state in order to determine a problem. The PIAA is not just basketball and football and the world doesn't revolve around south western Pennsylvania. I agree there is a problem, but in south western Pennsylvania the problem isn't private schools. The public schools have shrinking enrollment and grow increasingly reliant on federal funding. A real solution would be district consolidation in this area or a state wide move to county school districts like much of the south has. This is also why you can't compare PA with most of the country athletically. We operate with local districts while many operate under a county system.
If you think just attacking private schools is your solution you're failing to see the bigger picture.

Mine and others problem is when someone who purports knowledge on the subject can't bring himself to answer a straight forward yes or no question.
Our problem is the notion that only the charters are poisoning competitive balance. The likes of Kennedy Catholic, Bethlehem Catholic (in wrestling) et al are just as much to blame for the disparity in Pa. playoffs. If your going to red line peoples B.S. meters you're going to be called on it. There's plenty of blame to go around.

Re: Classification of Private Schools
I believe there is a severe problem with private / charter schools unfairly taking advantage of the rules to dominate the lower state classifications. Especially in basketball.
However, the percentage statewide of students that "move" to gain athletic advantage to a better team is very minimal compared to those students that just move. School districts have kids move in and out daily. Less than 1% of them are doing it for athletics.
People need to realize that this is where the line is. It's unfair, but you play under those circumstances. As a coach / player, I don't know how you can feel extremely successful knowing you really didn't build your championship.

QTell me what District doesn't have a problem with private/charter schools getting an advantage
Re: Classification of Private Schools
I took in the Saltsburg/Vincentian game Friday , Vincentian had23 fans there, I counted them.
Re: Classification of Private Schools
Yeah but they had deep pockets.
It ain't over until it's over.
Re: Classification of Private Schools
But the tickets all cost the same. So, it doesn't benefit PIAA.Manfred wrote:Yeah but they had deep pockets.
Re: Classification of Private Schools
I was referring to tuitions to send kids there. For the atmosphere, edjumacashun, and religious experience.

Re: Classification of Private Schools
How does paying tuition have anything to do with the PI AA ? I brought this up to discuss solutions to the attendance problem, it is only going to get worse with the addition of the Charter Schools if you want to discuss money, then we need to talk about who pays The bill for the PI AA. Suppose Vencentian playied a charter school instead of Saltsburg Friday night, they would have had less than 50 fans at the game Whether we like it or not, the fans are going to have to be taking into consideration when choosing a site .

That may have been a higher number than Jeannette fans at Richland yesterday, and Union fans at UPJ on Friday.X3pointer wrote:I took in the Saltsburg/Vincentian game Friday , Vincentian had23 fans there, I counted them.
