Even if you do get those kids, you still have to win. I don't think it's just Wanny that sucks. It's that staff.

TAE...
You are gonna judge a coach and staff on one season? You can't judge them until they have a few seasons at the school. Let them recruit their kids and then see what happens.
A few weeks ago in your weekly picks, you mentioned that Syracuse new coach is a good coach. How can you say that with their record? You give Syracuse coach credit but not Pitt's. Sounds like some bias to me.

Sounds like bias? Greg Robinson is a proven success. Maybe he'll totally flop. Also, how many times have I been on Syracuse's case? About 50 million. I guess you selective read that one.
Pitt's staff is terrible, H&H. They were terrible before Wanny, and will always be terrible. Wannstedt was a bad hire, and when you combine that with a bad staff...
Hey, Ron Zook is having a great recruiting year too, pal. It's real easy for a new coach to convince kids he's gonna win whenever there's no previous track record of him losing games at that school. Pitt has just as much of a chance to do better as everyone else has. Problem is, you have got to win games to get recruits when you are a program like Pitt, and not a program like Michigan or Penn State. Pitt cannot lose games to Ohio and Rutgers, dude. It doesn't matter if you'd win those games if you played them again. You lost. You're not going to beat Louisville or WVU, and we both know it. Your defense is terrible. Your offense is a shadow of what Palko was a year ago. The reason for that, is not just graduation. Harris was a QB coach. Palko is regressing, and that is a real shame, because I like him a lot.
There are so many more problems with that Pitt program than what you guys will admit to. But even with that being the case, it boils down to the games. You do not have a good team. You will not beat WVU for a number of years now, because that team is very young and is doing well. You'll probably lose to Louisville for 3 more years as well. Pitt will win 7-8 games a regular season simply because they don't play anyone in the conference. That is the truth of it.
IF by some chance the Big East ceases to exist as a football entity, and I really do think that sucks, but when Pitt accepts the Big 10 invite, you will all see how much progress Pitt needs to make to be nationally competitive, and you'll see how much you are wrong about the Big 10.

Re: Rivals.com Top 100
Greg Robinson is expected to have to adjust severely coming from the assistant ranks to the head ranks. By pointing out that he has never been a head coach, you are proving how bad Wanny really is.
This is off a Bears site. I suggest you read it. And as much as you supposedly think Wanny was a success in the NFL, there's reasons why the guy is no longer there.
Dave Wannstedt, 1993-1998, Coaching Record 41-57-0, Playoff Appearances: 2
Dave Wannstedt, whose coaching reign in Chicago to this day remains an enigma. To Michael McCaskey's credit, Wannstedt was the most highly sought-after coaching prospect in January of that year. He was at the time Defensive Coordinator of the Super Bowl Champion Dallas Cowboys, in charge of the number one defense in the league. That Cowboys defense featured zero pro bowlers, so one could figure that regardless of talent, Wannstedt would assemble a tough, highly-ranked defensive unit in Chicago. This obviously never occurred. McCaskey barely was able to hire Wannstedt away from the New York Giants by promising control of personnel. This personnel control was Wanny's achilles' heel. It was never given to Ditka even though he sought it, Wannstedt was terrible at it, and even though he negotiated for it, to this day, he denies ever wanting control. Possibly many people in Chicago could forgive him at this point if he would only fess up to the damage he caused. He continually denies major responsibility for fiascos such as Rick Mirer, John Thierry, Marcus Spears, Bob Sapp, Patrick Riley, the list goes on. Much as he is doing in Miami right now, Wannstedt started fairly strong in Chicago. His team went 7-9 in 1993, and won a playoff game in 1994 with many of the same players Ditka had assembled. By 1995, there were fewer than 10 Ditka players left on the roster, and the "Wannstedt death spiral" began. The team endured three losing seasons from 1996 to 1998, after which year Wanny was finally released. During the press conference held to announce his firing, Wannstedt attributed his lack of success to "bad personnel moves made by "everyone", and the fact that he "hung on to Ditka's players too long". This last comment was interesting in that he wouldn't have won his single playoff game if it weren't for Ditka's players.

Nice diatribe. IRREGARDLESS, Pitt has alot of verbals, especially from PA. They are out recruiting PSU in their own state.

Re: Rivals.com Top 100
We'll see when the smoke clears. That smoke, of course, being Wanny's initial hype.
Re: Rivals.com Top 100
Regardless of Wanny's initial hype, your point is that there is no interest in Pitt, but yet they have 10 more committments than PSU. Also, yes it is a big deal to get recruits from your home state and PSU currently has 2 while Pitt has 13. Yeah this all might change, but as of now it is better than PSU. Yeah they can't pack a house every weekend like PSU, but they can recruit twice as well.

Re: Rivals.com Top 100
When you get a brain in your head, come and talk to me.
1. It is October, genius.
2. Don't tell me Pitt can recruit twice as well as Penn State. Get a clue before you make such a stupid comment. Penn State beats Pitt every year in recruiting.
Any coach who comes into a new program has a recruiting advantage. Why the hell do you think Pitt hired Dave Wannstedt? Because he was a former NFL coach. When you send an NFL coach into a kid's house, it's impressive. Especially when that coach has no track-record of losing games at the school he is representing. When you understand how things work, enter this conversation. But for now, quit wasting everybody's time with brainless statements.

How many of you watched the PSU game this afternoon? Did any of you see how many players on the field for the #9 Nittany Lions were from PA? Maybe 8, if that, of 22 players on the field. Mostly everybody else was either from Virginia, Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey. Winning PA might be what Pitt is striving to do, but the talent outside the state is where great teams are made. Stealing recruits from Michigan, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Virginia will make a solid football team. Pennsylvania is a great football state, don't get me wrong, but the same kids that Pitt is after are more than likely being sought after by other, better, football teams.
How many times do you have to be told that verbal commitments mean hardly anything? Turkovich verbaled to Boston College if I remember correctly. He's playing for the Golden Eagles, isn't he?
